Windows 10: How to stop the forceful automatic updates of Windows 10?

The question is in the title. My computer wants to restart itself several times a week at totally random occasions and in the middle of presentations and movies etc. Totally annoying. Why do we need updates every day? The downloads also slow the computer down. I know it is possible to skip a few hours or days, but I used to be able to turn the automatic updates off. Let me make the computer look for updates when I see fit. Is it possible to turn the automatic updates off totally? Dont these people feel that they have overdone this update thing miserably? The other thing that annoys me is this. It pops up. We have updates blah blah blah. I click restart later. Five minutes later it pops up again. And so on. Imagine that you are in the middle of some work and you need to go to the toilet. By the time, you come back you have lost your latest changes and the computer is restarting. It also closes your open files(even if you have saved them), explorer windows, applications etc. Then it takes 30 minutes to get back into the rythm. And the lovely updates mess my computer up sometimes. Once it took me a week to tidy up after one. That update for Windows 10 installed an MSN messenger as well. Weird. What for anyway? It wiped my desktop, my notes, and the start menu settings and the desktop image and God knows what. All my icons. Itt looked like I have reinstalled the whole system. Luckily, my files remained intact. This mainly affected the presonalised settings. Even the screen resolution changed. I have icons on my start screen and task bar. It is annoying when they get wiped.

5. Right-click Background Intelligent Transfer Service, and then click Properties.

6. In the Startup type list, click Manual, and then click Apply.

7. If Service status is set to Stopped, click Start, and then click OK.

windows automatic updates

i have some questions about the windows automatic updates in windows xp pro w sp/2. ive got about forty updates they recommend , mostly for security but i only installed two today. after installing them i found them in my add/remove programs in the control panel, if i add all these updates that is a lot of space on my hd almost 1 gig. i thought that updates just updated files and not created new programs. should i innore all these update suggestions from microsoft?
