Windows 10: How to stop windows from restarting automatically

This is becoming a big issue for me - I have lots of windows open like spreadsheets, documents, web pages, etc. I never shut my computer off but at night, windows keeps rebooting my machine and I'm losing a lot of work. It seems to be getting worse - rebooting more often of late.


I paused updates but it's still restarting. After that happens, I have to go into each office document and try to "auto-recover". This is very annoying Microsoft. Not to mention other programs that are abruptly killed on a reboot and the amount of work lost.


Please help.

A simple solution but one that works in most circumstances!

1. Click Start, click Run, type services.msc, and then click OK.

2. In the list of services, right-click Automatic Updates, and then click Properties.

3. In the Startup type list, click Automatic, and then click Apply.

4. If Service status is set to Stopped, click Start, and then click OK.

5. Right-click Background Intelligent Transfer Service, and then click Properties.

6. In the Startup type list, click Manual, and then click Apply.

7. If Service status is set to Stopped, click Start, and then click OK.

Turn off Windows Automatic Restarts so you can see what type of BSOD the system is popping.
