How to write UNC paths for Group Policy Editor? (folder on NAS)

Hello! I'm trying to set just one of my folders to be in "Always Offline" mode; the folder is located via WiFi to Synology DS218+ NAS (home LAN). It is the Downloads folder and I've used "Folder Redirection" place it on the NAS.

The issue: to enable "Always Offline" for a specific folder (instead of all shares), you need the folder's UNC path. I think I have it right, but the folder remains online. This Microsoft guide makes it pretty clear, but I can't for the life of me set it to only one folder.

Since I can make all folders "Always Offline" via \* (the Microsoft example), then I presume I've screwed up the UNC path? Here are the paths that have failed (i.e., the folder remains online):

    "\\Home\Files of UserA\Downloads\*" - not working
    "\\Home\Files of UserA\Downloads" - not working
    "\\Home\Files of UserA\Downloads" - not working
\* - working (but applies to all folders)

Have I missed something? I think I do need quotes as one folder name has a space. Right?

    ----------

    The nitty gritty:
    • Local Group Policy Editor -> Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Network -> Offline Files -> Configure slow-link mode
    • I reboot between each change, as it's affecting Computer Configuration

    Hi Tony,

Group Policy Editor in Windows is a tool to help you manage policy settings. Here's how you can access the Local Group Policy Editor:

    • Press Win+R to open Run.
    • Type gpedit.msc, and then click OK.

Let us know how else we can help.

One specific UNC path suddenly not working on one specific Win10 machine

    Hi,

A month or two ago, my main computer stopped being able to access my NAS' UNC path (\\corbeau\...). It used to work.

    • I do not remember changing anything on that NAS
    • Other Win10 machines can access that same UNC path
    • The problematic machine can access the NAS by using its IP in the UNC path (\\192.168.2.10\...)
    • All machines can access other machines by their UNC path (\\cardinal\... or \\epervier\...)
    • A ping for the NAS name from the problematic machine fails to resolve
    • Pings from other machines work
    • Every machine can ping other machines by their name

I'm totally lost. Where should I look for to resolve this very annoying issue?

    Thanks.

This notice appears each time the Group Policy editor is opened, and takes two clicks on OK to close.
    Simple steps to banish it?

Checked out this article, but was unable to rename the two files mentioned. I did delete them, however, and this removed the error message. What damage that did is ... to be discovered. ^_^ Files are in RECYCLE bin.
