It's called unbridled arrogance. Of course now, they've managed to even screw that up, by blocking the proper installation of the 3rd party start menu apps, quite possibly the most miserable and cynical act I seen from them since the whole metro fiasco began. In another post (forgot which), someone said they renamed the Classic Shell install file and then installed it successfully. You might give that a try.

    Rich

    Edit Addition:
Decided to try above. Without renaming the install file, I ended up with pic #1 . After renaming install file to "Myshell", it installed successfully.

Doesn't the scroll bar appear at the bottom when placing the pointer over the tiles as seen below?

Then I found that the mouse scroll wheel doesn't work unless I move the scroll bar a little first.

Yes Sir, it does, kinda hard to hit the bar quickly, though, without opening an item!
Had to create an empty area at the beginning to click on. A little handier.

The irony is this; I can open the Start Menu, mouse hover on anything on the left side to highlight the elements, All Apps opens on mouse hover after a short delay then I can scroll the All Apps menu not having clicked on anything yet.
I don't see why the right side can't be engaged on mouse hover.

Although I know they’re not finished with it yet, I can see you’re frustrated as are a lot of us with this new Start Menu. I’m even more so since there’s no way to make focus with the keyboard. No arrow key, nor Tab key work to navigate any longer in this build. LOL! I’m left looking at the blinking curser in the search box!

All in all, I’m only using the Start menu because of no configuring of booting to Start Screen yet and to learn the Start Menu, of which I’ve lost all desire to learn anymore. I never liked any of them, nor really used them since Windows 98SE. I thought there was hope when getting a keyboard with the Windows key on it, but nay. Old tech that needs to disappear as far as I’m concerned. I’ve got better things to do with my time. Good luck to those who want to persevere and suffer with it.

When W8 first came out I installed Classic Shell, because I just simply couldn't do without a Start Menu. But since W8.1 I have used the Start Screen and now I actually prefer it to the Start Menu. Go figure... *Biggrin

Tony, you can use the Start Screen by right-clicking on the Start Menu and selecting properties. Then select the Start Menu tab and uncheck where it says, "Use Start Menu instead of the Start Screen". Then click apply and you're ready to go! *Smile

Hi Chuck. Does that allow you to actually boot to the Start Screen? I think that's what HG is getting at. I don't have the latest build installed yet, so I'm not sure if the "boot to Start Screen" option is available yet.

To be honest, I don't really use the Start Menu for much except customizations as in my previous post. Most of my frequently used programs are either pinned to the task bar, available in the WinX menu or launched from the right click context menu.

However, here's a combination of software's so cool that I had to share this with ya!

    OblyTile v0.9.9:

[APP] OblyTile - Tile Creator for all progra… | Windows 8, RT Development and Hacking | XDA Forums

    Media Player Classic-Home Cinema v1.7.7:

    Home · MPC-HC

With OblyTile you can create high quality Start Menu entries to open any number of favorite files and/or programs of your choice.
Here's an example opening videos using MPC-HC as the default program for opening these file types, check it out:
(choose 'full size', it'll be easier to see!)

No, we still can't boot to the Start Screen yet. *Sad Depends on your device

On my touch screen laptop the Start Screen has been the default since the first build

I never see the new Start Menu unless I go in and change it over

From what I have read on here, desktop/non touch only have new Start Menu, touch devices have the option of either

What I'm hoping for is that W10 will eventually boot to the Start Screen on non touch screen devices as well. It may be the deciding factor on whether I buy W10 when the finished product comes out.

I have a feeling that the start screen will be no more soon after looking at the pictures of continuum

Mouse/Keyboard users have the start menu that is there now
Touch user have similar but it just expands to fill the desktop

So you just get a big or a small start menu

Hope I am wrong, but that is the impression I am getting
