Windows 10: HP Designjet 500 no longer working since 2 months as of July 2020 on Windows 10

I have an HP Designjet 500 42" that I've been using for ages with my Windows 10 desktop PC but recently it's stopped working - the file goes to the queue but never gets to the printer.

I've checked the USB lead etc, plugged into different port, tried updating the drivers - all the usual but it will not work.

Epson SX440 on the same computer works fine though.

As far as I can tell it's a recent update that's caused it - I have another Windows 10 machine that doesn't work either that's up to date but I know the problem isn't with the printer as I can print from my Win7 netbook without an issue.

Any ideas?


I get error 'Operation could not be completed error 0x0000007f. The specified procedure could not be found' when trying to print test page on this printer but the Epson works fine.

HP Designjet 500 not printing in Windows 10

I have an HP designjet 500 24 connected through a network and I can print without any problems.

I connected another one, same model, via USB and the installation did not present any problems. If I try to print, it just shows a message "attempting to cancel the print".

Print and scan doctor does not show any errors and allow for Test Print.

Print Test Page from Properties shows an unknown error.

There aren't any drivers provided by HP for HP designjet for Windows 10.

To get DVD player to work, you have to install the DVD drivers from the manufacturer website.

If the drive is not showing up in the Device Manager try the following:

• Press Windows key + X and select Command Prompt (Admin)
• Then, at the command prompt type the following ( you can copy and paste) and press "Enter":
• reg.exe add "HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi\Controller0" /f /v EnumDevice1 /t REG_DWORD /d 0x00000001
• Restart the computer.
