Windows 10: HP Envy, windows 10 installed. cannot player DVD via USB DVD drive

Windows media player doesn't recognise any DVD in ext player. VLC only produces green bars on screen. DVD works in other equipment

HP Envy 23 DVD Drive no longer working

Hi, I have just upgraded to Windows 10 on my HP Envy 23 D116a and the DVD drive is not working.

It shows up in device manager as hp dvd a ds8a9sh, the driver is just a cd-rom driver though, I have tried updating the driver, deleting the driver and restarting.

When any disc is put in it does not show up in the drives list in file explorer.

Any ideas on what to try next?

HP Envy Laptop- Windows 10- External DVD/CD Player?

Does anyone know of a good external dvd/cd player for a HP envy laptop or windows 10?

My problem is that we've had one before (external drive), however, you can, i suppose, play games with this player,

but you cant watch movies/ dvds? VLC does not work, i have tried. I don't know if it was compatible with

windows 8, but we've had the same issue since purchase (before upgrade to 10)....

The external drive is recognised by our laptops, and so are the dvds/discs, however, when you click

on the icon, it opens up to the content of the discs, thus you can never watch anything. this also happens

when actually in the applications and after dvd/ movie is selected, it opens up to the stored files.

HELP!!!!!!!!!!

 

Windows DVD Player installed in Windows 10 but not recognizing DVD to play

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

The DVD Player app only supports the following:

a. DVDs from a file backup is not supported, the app currently only plays DVD movies on optical discs.

b. The App will only play DVD's not Blu-ray discs.

If you satisfy both the categories, I would suggest you follow the steps below and see if it helps:

Update DVD/CD-ROM drives from Device Manager.

• 
  Press Windows key + R key. Type "devmgmt.msc" and click Enter.
  
• 
  Expand the DVD/CD-ROM drives.
  
• 
  Double-click on the DVD/CD-ROM drive.
  
• 
  In Properties, go to Drivers Tab and click on Update.
  

If this does not work you might have to Uninstall and then reinstall your drivers in compatibility mode.

Follow the steps to uninstall and reinstall the driver.

• 
  Press Windows key + R key. Type "devmgmt.msc" and click Enter.
  
• 
  Expand the DVD/CD-ROM drives.
  
• 
  Double-click on the DVD/CD-ROM drive.
  
• 
  In Properties, go to Drivers Tab and click on Uninstall.
  
• 
  Reinstall your audio driver from Manufacturer's Website in Compatibility mode.
  
• 
  Restart your system
