Windows 10: HP Laptop camera not working

Intro details: Windows 10, HP ENVY x360 -15z-ds000 CTO

Started my laptop up today, and I was surprised to find that the camera was not found while I was on calls. It worked perfectly yesterday, and I didn't really do anything.

0xA00F4244<NoCamerasAreAttached> is the error code on the Camera app

On device manager, even if I click show hidden devices, I don't see Camera/Imaging Devices/etc. Scanning for hardware changes doesn't change anything either, unfortunately.

I tried restarting, updating Windows and restarting, and also I found online a command for sfc/scannow, but that didn't work either.

My laptop is a HP ENVY x360 -15z-ds000 CTO (as determined from the HP support app), and I looked up the drivers online, but I didn't find any for camera.

Would really love some help since I do need video for all the upcoming calls.

Thanks for updating us on the results of the troubleshooting steps that you have completed. Since the built-in webcam is still not working correctly and the same error code 0xA00F4244 (0xC00DABED) is still appearing, we suggest that we check the camera privacy
settings to see if the camera access is turned on. Kindly follow the steps below to check the camera privacy settings:

• Press the Windows key + I to open the Settings app.
• Near the top of the Settings app window is the search box, kindly type the word "webcam" or "camera".
• From the list of results choose Camera privacy settings.
• Make sure that "Let apps use my camera" toggle is set to On.

Can you post up a little more information on your system. First what is the model of your HP laptop?

Is your camera built into the laptop (usually at the top front of the screen)?

Can you share the driver name of your camera?

To get this information you will need to open up Device Manager:

Steps to get camera driver name:

1. Hold down the Windows key and press R (Win+R)

2. Type devmgmt.msc, then click OK

3. Find 'Imaging Devices' and expand it by clicking the '>' to the left.

4. Right click on the device listed and select 'properties'

5. From the window that pops up, copy down the device name listed at top and post to this thread

Also, if you are familiar with how to take screenshots, it would be very beneficial to post up a screenshot of your driver details. While you have the device properties window open, complete steps below to get driver details screenshot.

Steps to share driver details screenshot:

1. With the Imaging Device properties window open as per steps above, click on 'Driver' tab

2. Click the 'Driver Details' button

3. Hold down Alt-PrtScn key on your keyboard

4. Hold down the Windows key and press R (Win+R)

5. Type mspaint, then click OK

6. Hold down Ctrl-V to paste your screenshot

7. Hold down Ctrl-S to save your screenshot, save in a location you can find later like your pictures folder

8. Post the driver details screenshot to this thread using the 'Insert Image' option on the reply window toolbar.
