    HP Laptop fails to boot from USB


    I have a HP 14-cm0012la laptop on which the original hard drive has failed. I purchased a new 240GB SSD and inserted into the laptop. I downloaded the Windows Media Creation Tool and ran that to create a bootable USB. However, the laptop is failing to boot from the USB. I have looked thru the BIOS and tried booting with Secure Boot disabled, with Legacy boot enabled but each time, the PC seems to read from the USB and keeps recycling back to the HP logo in a continuous loop. I have also tried creating the USB with Rufus 3.13. I have had no luck with anything I have tried. I even flashed the BIOS with software from the HP website but no luck. I'm fresh out of ideas as to what else I can try but I'm fairly convinced this is a BIOS problem. I'd appreciate any help I can get.

    USB boot for bios update

    Did the first step. It already doesn't work. Note the capacities and drive letters M:/N: The HP utility is about to format my raid-1 volume containing my 2 750gb drives. It thinks it's the usb stick. I can not select any other drives in the HP utility. My 512mb usb stick is U:.

    Any other suggestions?

    Hello Jimmy, HP Laptop fails to boot from USB :)

    This doesn't list the "Surface Laptop", but you might give it a try to see.

    *Arrow Boot Microsoft Surface from a USB device

    Otherwise, you should be able to use OPTION ONE below to boot from the USB from advanced startup.

    Set Boot up first to the drive with hiren bootcd 10.4
    Done...

    the options will pop out after loading the disc choose

    boot cd

    then the list (step by step)

    Next...
    Dos....
    USB Drivers....
    Load USB Drivers with no386.....

    Ask you load cd drivers. NO
    Ask you load SCSI drivers. NO
    Ask you anything NO.
    USB driver list comes out. 8 Don't choose anything else.

    type
    C:\ (that should be your mp3 player if you did it right)

    atiflash -i
    to list the adapters

    atiflash -p -f 0 ???.bin

    done.........
