Windows 10: HP LaserJet 2100 PostScript support under Windows 10 x64?

Greetings all,

I have reluctantly decided to migrate from Windows 7 Home Premium to Windows 10 Pro currently Ver.1909 on an HP EliteBook 8570W and am having a nightmare with printer drivers for my HP 2100M PostScript with JetDirect card and upgraded RAM +16MB. I use PostScript a lot, especially with Spreadsheets and many docs. I come from a printing background and very familiar with PostScript programing with it's benefits. Finding replacement with the same spec at reasonable cost these days is impossible.


I have tried the replacement HP Universal Print Drivers, and more receently HP PARK-v1.8.7. all seem to be impossible to install, and configure on TCP/IP ports and print. I have an Epson Stylus Photo colour printing through a D-Link Print Server which is a doddle to setup - although not PostScript..


Can Microsoft provide any help here? I have to use my older Win7 Home Premium x64 laptop if I want to print anything PostScript at the moment. I am running Win 7 VMware Hypervisor, but even that could be complicated to print from Windows 10.

HP LaserJet 2100 PCL6 support under Windows 10 x64?

Good news: the HP LaserJet 2100 PCL6 user mode driver is back (version 6.1.7233.0) with the November 2015 update of Windows 10 (aka version 1511 or build 10586)

Getting it requires a few steps. One way is to open the Device Manager, select Printers in the tree, and then pick Action / Add legacy hardware in the top menu.

A wizard will open. Select Install the hardware that I manually select from a list, then Printers.

Then pick the port the printer is connected to.

Then the "Add Printer" dialog should open.

At this time the HP 2100 PCL6 driver will not be listed... but you can now click on the "Windows Update" button in that dialog to retrieve additional drivers.

Wait for a while after clicking on the Windows Update button (easily 10 minutes). It might look like things are not working... but eventually the list of printers will expand.

You should now be able to find "HP LaserJet 2100 PC6" under "HP".

Pick that and you should be good to go...

 

HP LaserJet 2100 PCL6 support under Windows 10 x64?

I have two computers that were running Windows 8.1 and sharing a HP LaserJet 2100 printer.

One was running Windows 8.1 x86 and one Windows 8.1 x64. Both were using a PCL6 driver.

I upgraded both to Windows 10.

After the upgrade the one running Windows 10 x86 could still print to the HP LaserJet using a PCL6 driver.

But the one running Windows 10 x64 could not (no error but nothing would come out), and opening the printer properties dialog I would get a message complaining about the driver HP LaserJet 2100 PCL6 driver missing.

I therefore attempted to manually install the missing PCL6 driver using the standard printer properties dialog but got an error message telling me that a policy prevents NT 4 drivers from being installed.

Eventually I downloaded the HP Universal Printing PCL 5 driver directly from HP website and this one worked.

While I can now print from both computers I am somewhat bothered by the fact that I have to rely on a PCL 5 driver when I could use a PCL6 driver with Windows 8.1.

Is PCL6 not supported by Windows x64? What is this policy that prevents NT 4 drivers from being installed?

hp laserjet 1320 postscript

windows 10. I have the laserjet 1320 PCL driver but am unable to find the postscript (PS) driver for it. any suggestions?
