Your help is greatly needed an appreciated…

Why does this crap always happen the day before vacation?!

Here are the details and some of it may be irrelevant.
I have a fairly new (6 months) HP Omen that I bought for gaming; it doesn’t have a lot of software on it. Yesterday I was watching TechGumbo’s channel on improving Win 10 boot times and comparing some of his advice to my system. I made two changes to see if there was an impact: changing the size of the pagefile and turning on hibernate and the fast reboot in power settings. I got sidetracked not long after and installed an old version of Winamp from the WinXP ‘cause I was wanting to use an old utility it had. I left the laptop running all night.
The next morning I did a reboot and noticed the hibernation toggle had worked and went on doing whatever then noticed my WiFi disconnected for no apparent reason. I reconnected and after a minute or two it happened again. I tried a different connection (I have 3) and the behavior repeated itself. It wasn’t happening to other laptops in the house. I uswed the troubleshoot function and Windows came back saying the ethernet cable wasn’t plugged in (I’ve never used one) and that it had reset the network adapter (RealTek). The computer reconnected and worked for a few minutes then disconnected.
Over the course of troubleshooting, I decided to use restore and restored to a date a few weeks ago before the major Win10 update. The internet seemed fine and worked for 15 minutes or more. Thinking it may have had something to do with the fast reboot and hibernate options I played with earlier, I went in and changed those options again to enable hibernation and fast reboot figuring maybe there was some power option on the network adapter that was messing with it. Low and behold the connection eventually dropped and I used the troubleshooter to reset the network adapter. I then returned the power option settings back to their original state and reboot and then went to undo the previous restore I had made (to bring the updates back) but interestingly, the computer now said there were no restore points! That seemed strange ‘cause there were at least two before and I didn’t notice an ‘undo’ last restore option.
    Fine.
Then I noticed the WiFi dropping again. I made sure I returned settings to where they were before I noticed the problem and reboot. As before, with each reboot, the adapter showed it was connected immediately I couldn’t surf. Within a minute or less, the icon would show the asterix and the WiFi was dropped. Even when I tried to connect manually, it would take quite some time and would also often the yellow exclamation mark once connected saying the internet wasn’t available with that connection. I checked device manager and all looked fine. I also removed the network adapter and let windows reinstall it. No improvement.
I went into msconfig and selected the safe boot option hoping to see if it could maintain a connection while in safe mode. Upon reboot, it asked my password but then said I had enterned an incorrect one. I tried all possible passwords (assuming that maybe there was a system password that it rolled back to that was different from my log-in password).
So this is where I am now and I have no idea how to proceed. I do have a recovery drive (I think) on a USB stick. There is also a partition called ”recovery drive” that windows created when I first bought the laptop. I have no idea how to utilize either.
    Please help.
    Thanks

    **UPDATE**
I got into the laptop (tried a different password) and am now working on the adapter issue only

    :)

HP includes four batteries and a charging dock with the backpack accessory so users can charge two batteries while using the other two simultaneously. Additionally, the convenient placement of the batteries on the backpack harness means never having to remove the backpack to swap the batteries.
    • The strategic placement of fan exhaust and an angled mounting plate positions the top of the PC and vents away from users to help reduce heat transfer to the body.
    • The backpack accessory includes shortened cables to keep gamers immersed and not worrying about tripping over long cables while locking cables and hooks hold the VR headset securely in place.

The display quality for gamers affects the overall gaming experience and to round out the OMEN ecosystem, HP is introducing two new display options for performance gamers, the OMEN by HP 25 and OMEN by HP 27 displays. HP built each display to meet the needs of a specific type of gamer, sharing many of the same design elements, but tailoring the features for each display. The OMEN 25 is optimized for 1080p resolution gaming with competitive framerates and enhanced refresh rates with AMD FreeSync when paired with an AMD Radeon GPU7. The OMEN 27 brings speed and the right features like NVIDIA G-Sync to enable fluidity, and deliver a display built for both performance gamers and esports athletes.
    OMEN by HP 25:
    • Overclockable to enable a response time as low as 1ms to reduce lag and ghosting.
    • 144Hz refresh rate is over twice as fast as a standard 60Hz panel for smoother gameplay.
    • AMD FreeSync technology synchronizes the GPU to the display for an ultra-smooth, lag-free experience that eliminates stuttering and tearing.
    • An integrated cable management clip on the stand allows gamers to keep everything managed cleanly behind the display and the headset hook means the headset isn't in the way, but is close for when the next session begins.
    • 2 USB 3.0 ports allow connection to various USB devices acting as a USB hub -- keyboards, mice, and even special controllers such as steering wheels and joysticks.
    • DisplayPort is the recommended connection for maximizing refresh rate with FreeSync technology, but gamers can also utilize the HDMI port to attach a console, giving gamers the ability to leverage one display for multiple gaming platforms.
    OMEN by HP 27:
    • QHD resolution with 70% more pixels than a FullHD panel, so gamers can crank up their resolution for more detailed visuals and immersive gameplay.
    • Overclockable TN panel to enable a response time as low as 1ms to reduce lag and ghosting.
    • 165Hz refresh rate, nearly three times as fast as a traditional 60Hz panel.
    • NVIDIA G-Sync technology which dynamically matches the refresh rate of the display to the frame rate output of the GPU, eliminating tearing, minimizing stutter and input lag.
    • As with the OMEN 25, the OMEN 27 is equipped with an integrated cable management clip on the stand and a headset hook to keep the battle station clean and ready for the next opportunity to dominate the competition.
    • 2 USB 3.0 ports ensure gamers can connect any peripheral needed while competing.

HP Unleashes the Omen X and Omen 17

HP Inc. today launched a new family of gaming products designed specifically for those who demand the ultimate, immersive gaming experience. HP's new high-end gaming products -- the OMEN X Desktop, OMEN 17 Laptop, OMEN X Curved Display and OMEN with SteelSeries accessories -- are engineered to deliver aggressive performance and the flexibility to customize every detail to intensify the thrill of each competition.

"The OMEN X Desktop was built for serious gamers who need fierce performance out-of-the-box in a fully customizable chassis -- something not typically available from traditional PC manufacturers," said Kevin Frost, HP vice president and general manager, Consumer Personal Systems. "HP's engineers combined a unique design that maximizes thermal management with support for industry standard components so that the true enthusiast can always be up to date with the latest hardware to maintain peak performance with a customized rig."

The OMEN X offerings are an extension of HP's unified gaming portfolio announced in May to maximize gaming performance per dollar. The OMEN X brand focuses on overbuilt and over-engineered products meant to deliver bold innovation for gaming customers.

    Desktop Performance to Dominate Decisively
The OMEN X features the latest graphics technology up to dual NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 and up to dual AMD Radeon R9 Fury X to elevate the performance of any game with stunning visuals. The 6th generation Intel Core i5/i7 processor with overclocking capability paired with a VR-ready GPU will enable flawless Virtual Reality (VR) and immersive 4K experiences for even the most demanding AAA games.

HP engineered superior thermal management allowing customers to stay cool under pressure and get the highest possible performance and full potential of the hardware. This revolutionary thermal management includes a tri-chamber design to separate components and optimize thermals with dedicated cooling in each chamber. The OMEN X Desktop also includes support for up to three 120mm liquid cooling radiators with top mounted exhaust vents and a stand that lifts the case off the ground to help pull cool air in, allowing for maximum ventilation.

    Other top features include:
    • OMEN Control software provides complete design control, allowing for custom LED light modifications and brightness adjustments in real time
    • Chassis adheres to industry standards for seamless upgrades and modifications
    • Tool-less access to the internals and a hidden toolkit in the chassis accommodates upgrades
The ability to build a PC from the ground up is crucial for true enthusiast gamers and one of the most significant differentiators of the OMEN X Desktop. Builders and modders can purchase an empty OMEN X chassis as a standalone option for a completely immersive do-it-yourself (DIY) PC experience. The standalone chassis provides the same thermal benefits of the tri-chamber design and industry standards, making a custom build as seamless as end-users expect.

To help guarantee every high-end PC gamer's needs are met with the OMEN X Desktop, HP is collaborating with Maingear to build customized PCs for the ultra-enthusiast. Maingear delivers exceptional build quality, and together with HP, gamers can design the ultimate custom OMEN X build. The Maingear OMEN X Desktop will be available to customers in early 2017 and pricing will vary as a function of the customer's imagination and wallet.
