Windows 10: HP Printer Drivers Fail Windows 10 Update, including error 0x80240017 for CP1520 series...

It appears that some people get continued failed updates for HP printer drivers in Windows 10. One solution that has been mentioned is to use Microsoft's "Hide Updates" tool. But this solution goes away after a while.


I had this problem with the HP CP1525. The way that I permanently fixed this is to completely remove the CP1520 driver from the installed applications, and to install the "HP Universal Print Driver for Windows PCL6." This driver is available from HP's web site, and should work for many HP single-function printers. You can also change the name of the printer from "HP Universal Printing" to the name of your particular HP printer model. This driver should have enough features to fulfill just about every need.

I verified that Windows update no longer tries to install the CP1520 series driver after doing this fix. Also, the CP1525 prints fine with this new driver.

Having recently upgraded to windows 10 in windows update there is an update which is continually failing to install - hp driver update for hp laserjet professional cp1520 series pcl6 - error 0x80240017 - does anyone have any information
on how to fix this ?

My HP LaserJet Professional CP1520 Series PCL 6 works, and it shows up in device manager, which indicates that driver is up to date.

64-bit Windows 10 Pro.

However, it is not found by the HP Support Assistant. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the printer, but I continue to get the 0x80240017 update error.

If the Support Assistant can't find it, how can the Windows 10 driver update find it? HP no help so far.


Is there any kind of fix now or in the future? I don't want to merely temporarily prevent a driver update.

I'd be very grateful for any assistance.

Windows update error "• HP driver update for HP LaserJet 100 color MFP M175 PCL6 - Error 0x80240017"

Spoke too soon. When I tried to print there was no printer.

I searched for wireless printers and Windows 10 installed drivers.

The printer worked but when I checked Settings/Updates the annoying message

"HP driver update for HP LaserJet Professional CP1520 Series PCL 6 - Error 0x80240017"

is back again !!
