    HP printer on router

I have an HP Photosmart printer which works just fine when plugged into a USB port.
However I need to have it connected to my router so I can share it. Unfortunately Windows 10 cant see it there, either by Ethernet or wireless.
Did the Google thing and the HP searches, no joy. Tried Settings and Control Panel.
My iMac sees it fine. Am I just going to have to keep it plugged into the PC and use Printer Sharing?
Could have sworn I'd done this before a few years ago (Vista) but it doesn't work now.
    Any ideas?

    :)

Connecting HP Deskjet 2600 to WiFi

You connect a wireless printer to your network router to connect to your network. Connect it to your router--not to any one computer. Then the printer should appear on your network and be available for all your computers after you install the HP drivers
and software on each computer. HP has the directions for connecting to your network and setting up the printer. HP directions here-- https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c05367434l

  3. HP Printer won't print after upgrading to Windows 10

Since upgrading to Windows 10, my printer will not work with my computer. It works just fine with a different computer that was not upgraded to Windows 10. I have an HP Photosmart 6525 purchased in 2014.
I have rebooted the router/computer/printer, I have deleted and reloaded the printer, I have run the HP Printer Install Wizard and the HP Print and Scan Doctor, and I have tried cable connection instead of wireless....still nothing. The error message is
"unable to communicate with printer" or "printer offline". Like I said - the printer and the wireless router are both on and functioning - they connect just fine with a computer that is not Windows 10! Any help? Thanks.

    HP printer on router

I have an HP Laserjet and an HP Officejet plugged into my Router. My Windows, Mac OS X and Linux computers can use them but I used the HP software [downloaded] to install as Wired Network printers. Any wired or wireless connection to the Router can use them. A couple of my Win10 computers picked up the software that I had stored on the NAS drive attached to the Router. It's possible the Ethernet port on the printer has a problem. I turned off/disabled the Wi-Fi on both printers.

Which HP software did you download? Mine is not Ethernet but USB. Photosmart D7160.
Plugging it back into my USB hub and it shows up fine but the Mac cant see it.
And I really don't want to buy another printer for the wife.
If it helps the router is an Airport Extreme, with one USB port.

I downloaded the specific software for each printer, HP Laserjet M1212nf and HP Officejet Pro 8600. The downloads were the full-featured, replacements for missing CDs. I do this type download frequently as it's amazing how many people 'misplace' the discs that came with their printer.

I'm not familiar with an Airport Extreme but maybe the USB port isn't working? The issue I have with using a printer attached to a computer is that computer has to remain running for other computers to use Print and File Sharing.

The USB port is working, the iMac can print to it fine. Plugged it back into the USB hub for now.
I just got Homegroup working again so the wife can see the printer on her HP and can print (I hope, havent tried yet).
Now to see if the Mac can see it...
    Thanks for the help.

Edit: Ok, the Mac found it! Looks like i may be set up for a while.
