  1. I am completely locked out of my PC

Today I got an Occulus Rift. While setting it up, I got stuck on "Sensors can't track headset." I tried literally everything on the entire internet and nothing worked even a little bit (but this isn't about the Rift, I'll have to try to fix that later if I can ever get back into my PC).

I saw one mention of a way to fix it: changing USB drivers to generic USB drivers. I knew that it could cause me to not be able to use my M&K anymore so I created a restore point. For a while after I did that, M&K worked fine even after multiple reboots but eventually they stopped working. They still work fine in BIOS though and I was able to get to the Windows Recovery Troubleshooter.

I tried "System Restore," but hit an error (0x80070003) on both the manually created save point and the system-created one that apparently was automatically created a few hours earlier. Then I tried "Go back to the previous version," and immediately hit "We ran into a problem" so that won't work either. So then I tried "Reset this PC" (w/Keep my Files) and again, "There was a problem resetting your PC." I didn't want to try resetting without keeping my files because I have a lot of files that aren't backed up, although most of them aren't on my C drive so i could unplug those drives and just reset the C drive, assuming there's not another error.

Safe Mode and "Disable driver signature enforcement" mode both still don't let me use my M&K.

    I don't have any access to a M&K that don't use USB.

tl;dr My mouse and keyboard (presumably all USB devices) don't work, safe mode doesnt help, cant restore a save point, revert to previous version, or reset the PC.

    e: this is Windows 10

  2. PC Build Steps

Ok just because I like steps i am going to create some steps. Please give me the stamp of approval/disapproval
    • Install system in case
      • Remember to connect SSD and optical to same SATA ports on motherboard
    • Turn on PC
    • setup HDD
    • run blend test in prime95 for 30-60 min
      • run realtemp at the same time
    • While in Prime95 test
      • if CPU goes above 70c in RealTemp, I have a leaky CPU
      • if my system locks up or blue screens, there is an instability in the system somewhere
      • if my system does not lock up or blue screen, my CPU is not damaged and I am in the clear!
    What do you guys think??

    PC Build Steps

1.1 - Ideally put optical in SATA 0, and SSD in SATA 1, this will cause the optical drive to be the default 1st boot option. You can change it manually if not, but I like it this way
    2.infinity - yes, that's fine. if it's above 70 +/- 5 degrees, then it may just need a repaste/remount

I am completely locked out of my PC

Windows Updated(16299.309).KB4088776 Restart is required to complete.

Hi dalchina. Good news, I followed your suggestion and reinstalled the update and now it appears as "installed correctly" *Biggrin Maybe it was not necessary to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter or maybe if necessary. But using it I do not think it could have worsened something. The installation was very fast, unlike the first time it showed step 1 and step 2 completed.

Thanks for the suggestions and for the time to respond I am completely locked out of my PC :) Best regards.

And thanks for the tip of that program, I'll have it on my list.
