Windows 10: I am receiving an error code 0x80004005

I am receiving an error code 0x80004005. When I try to copy my files back to my computor from an external hard drive. My laptop is Toshiba Satellite L455. External Storage device is a Seagate FreeAgent Go 320 GB.

I have looked over many other posts about this, all with the same error code, but with a different problem.

I have a computer thats a few years old, it has an ABIT kn8-sli motherboard, and its running off windows XP.

I was having problem with the hard drive before I gave up on it awhile back, and now I have come back and resolved that problem, but now when I get to the login screen and type in the password it says its in need of an update, then when it asks me if I want to update I click Yes, and then it says it won't work due to error 0x80004005.

The only operating system I have currently is windows 7. Do I need to go buy a new OS or is this recoverable?

 

ActiveSync Error Code 0x80004005

When I try to sync my Outlook mail and contacts using ActiveSync with the Exchange Server I receive the following message:



Synchronization failed. Try again, and if the condition persists, reset your device.

Error Code: 0x80004005



What does this mean? I can't find anything identifying error codes.



I initially did several resets and finally did a hard reset to completely rest the device.

I reconfigured and still get the same message.



Suggestions???
