  1. I am unable to disconnect a mapped drive (Windows 10)

I used to have all the network drives mapped using a GPO, however, I have now moved all the network files into the cloud (G Suite). Therefore, I have removed the GPO that mapped the drives and use Google's File Stream, which automatically maps the G: drive.

Whenever, I log on to a certain laptop, for some reason the Z: drive keeps appearing. I have tried numerous ways of removing the mapped drive, but it always appears each time I log on.

I have been in contact with Microsoft and spoken to a number of support staff and they have been very helpful, however, they have not been able to resolve my problem.

    :)

  2. Unable to disconnect from mapped network drive

I receive the following error when I try to disconnect from a self mapped network drive: "network connection does not exist"

The network drive icon appears with a bid red x and says it is disconnected, yet I can double click on it to enter the mapped folder. Doing this does not reconnect the folder, and remains disconnected. This causes problems because programs that pointed
to this path are unable to read the files. I am unable to remap this drive because the associated drive letter (EI am unable to disconnect a mapped drive (Windows 10) :) and mapping no longer shows up in the list.

I've tried all the typical suggestions including:

--I tried to do it via the command prompt with the net use delete command, but it can't be found in there.

--Tried to above with the actual network path instead of the drive letter, did not work

--Tried to delete the registry entries from:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MountPoints2

    HKEY_USERS\. Default\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Mountpoint2\

None of these solutions worked. Though deleting the registry entries momentarily hid the disconnected drive, the drive letter was still not available for mapping. I tried to force the drive letter (EI am unable to disconnect a mapped drive (Windows 10) :) to map to my optical drive, which worryingly, pointed
back to the mapped network location on the NAS instead of to the optical drive.

How do I get rid of this? Reformatting the computer is not an option.

  4. I am unable to disconnect a mapped drive (Windows 10)

Unable to Open/Disconnect a Mapped Drive in Windows 10

Windows 10 computer on an ad hoc network through a router with 2 NAS, one printer, and one other computer (all wired). Not part of a domain.

Apparently, I've mapped a network drive to Z: and called it Tablet (95 MB in size). It appears as Tablet (ZI am unable to disconnect a mapped drive (Windows 10) :) in Windows Explorer. I think that it was associated with an Android tablet connected via USB but reconnecting that tablet to USB doesn't help.

    • I cannot access this location. Windows Explorer first says that I don't have permission to access although I am under an Adminstrator level account, then when I click Continue it says I have been denied permission to access the folder.
    • In this same dialog box, Explorer provides a link to the "security tab" to gain access, but when the resulting Properties dialog box is displayed, there is no security tab.
    • "net use" in a command window, shows both Z: and Tablet. Both are shown as "Disconnected" and no drive letter is assigned to either. Under the "Remote" column I get "\\Computer\Tablet" and "\\Computer\z" ("Computer" is not the actual name).
    • When I remove the name "Tablet" from the properties dialog box in Explorer, the name reverts to "Local Disk (ZI am unable to disconnect a mapped drive (Windows 10) :)".
    • I cannot unmap or disconnect the drive. It is does not appear in the list of drives available to disconnect, and Z: is not available in the Map Network Drive dialog box and, obviously, no path is associated with it.
    • In Win Explorer under Network > Computer, the drive "z" (yes, lowercase) appears (along with Documents and Users) but I can't disconnect or open it from there either.
Does anyone have any advice on how to remove this mapping?

    TIA
