Windows 10: I bought a laptop with Windows before, and I recently built a PC. How do I activate windows...

On my old laptop I've found and written down the activation key using the cmd prompt that I've seen others suggest. I have correctly loggd into my new PC with the appropriate microsoft account, however it still says that Windows is not activated and when i try to use the key I found on my laptop, it won't work. Other forums I've checked says that simply logging in with my microsoft account should be enough so why isn't it working.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK

could someone please list the steps they follow to install windows with a dual core processor and windows xp service pack to. I'm reletively new to amd dual core and i feel i'm missing a step. All help will be appreciated. thanx
