    I Broke Windows

Modifying the advanced security settings for my Program Files x86 directory **** up my computer.

I wanted to edit the configuration file for a program, but Windows blocks access to it's directory by default I now understand why.

In the security tab for Program Files x86, I clicked "Advanced", "Change", and added my administrator account.

As the process scanned through the thousands of files, I got the error message "Failed to enumerate objects in the container. Access is denied" hundreds of times. I clicked "Continue" on all of them.

Immediately after I clicked "continue" on the final dialog box, everything went to hell. Now, the start menu and action center no longer pop up when I click on them. Nothing happens when I click to open default apps/open a file associated with a default app Ex. Microsoft Store, Mail, Calendar. I also can't add a Bluetooth device through settings, although I still can through the control panel.

None of the fixes I've tried have worked. I have:

    - Reset the "Owner" of Program Files x86 to "TrustedInstaller"

    - Run "DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth" and "sfc /scannow" in the command prompt

    - Copied my fully-functional laptop's Program Files x86 to "fill out" any potentially missing files I clicked the option to not copy files with identical names

I sent Microsoft an email about this over a month ago and have received no response.

    :)
