Windows 10: I can not open some videos via vlc media player on some of my file folders

Hi I have encountered this problem maybe 2 to 4 weeks already but I didn't mind this at first. I tried many tutorial on vlc troubleshooting with error saying: "Your input can't be opened: blah..blah...". None of them worked. This is how it started. When I tried to watch some videos using vlc media player it did not open. I prefer using vlc media player over other media players. But when I try to open the same video file using other media player like KMP or Movies & TV, It would play. Also when I tried to transfer the file to some file folders outside of its current file folder, it would play in vlc media player. Also when I tried to look for the video file properties, it has no security menu that normally should be there. And what really wonders me is when I tried to remove its properties and create a copy of it. The copy of the video file will play with VLC medial Player though in comparison is not 100 percent same quality of the original file of course. I compared them by opening the original file with other media player. So what is it really is the problem? I already scanned the file folder, the drive D and Drive C. still the same problem. Just to add, maybe this may help. SOME pdf files also has some problem. Adobe reader can not read them. Here again if I use other pdf reader like sumatra to open the pdf file, it reads. Now if I transfer it to another file folder outside of its current folder, adobe reader can read it already. I noticed also, when I tried to save as a copy of excel file to other file folder directory, it couldn't be saved. but when choosing another file folder directory, it can be saved. I hope someone can help me. I don't want to go to the last resort of reformatting my computer. Many Thanks!

VLC Media Player

To safely Uninstall VLC Media Player from Windows 10 follow next steps:

• Click on the Start button, and then select “Settings”



• Click on “System”



• Select “Apps& Features” in the left-hand sidebar



• Scroll down to locate VLC Media Player

• Click “Uninstall” and then confirm the uninstallation in the pop-up window by clicking“Uninstall”

Search for the components of VLC Media Player

• Click Start and then enter Regedit in the search box, Windows 10 users can type Regedit in the search bar and then enter the Registry Editor



• Hold down Ctrl+ F keys to launch the Find box. Put in CLV Media Player

• Choose the registries related to VLC Media Player and then delete them all.

• Note that this steps can trigger problems, thus to prevent problems occurring, you’d better back up the registry so that you can restore it if problems occurred.

Step 4: Show hidden files and remove the leftovers

• Click Start> Control Panel> Folder Options, choose the View Tab.

• Check the “Show hidden files and folders” in the Advanced Settings and then select “OK”.

Search for the leftovers of VLC Media Player in the Search Bar by entering VLC Media Player, and then delete the leftovers.

Default app set to VLC but Win Media PLayer opens

Try changing file association to VLC in settings, System, default apps, choose default apps by file type, change MP3 file to VLC...

Hi

I have set the default media player for both music and video to VLC and when I double click a single file it opens in VLC. However if I select a number of music files and hit enter or click play at the top of windows explorer it opens windows media player. Even if I right click the files it only gives me options to open in Windows Media Player as shown in attached.

How can I fix this?
