  2. Installing .tar and .jar files

    Hi
    MartinDRich
    ,

Welcome to the Nokia discussion boards!

    Try these steps:

    • You first need to connect your Nokia N8 to the computer containing the .jar file, once done you will see a notification in the top left corner of the screen – quickly tap this notification before it disappears and choose “Mass Storage”, make sure it says
      active just below
    • Now that you have done this, you should find the .jar file that you wish to install and choose the Nokia N8, which will show as a storage device on PC’s, or on Mac’s it’s displayed as a storage device named “Untitled” – from this point click on the storage
device and put the .jar file within the “Installs” folder.
    • That the file is on your phone, you now need to install it. Eject your Nokia N8 device and disconnect it from the mobile phone. Now on your phone, press the Menu button (bottom left of the phone) and choose Settings > Application Manager > Installation
files – now choose the file you put onto the phone in the earlier step.

It should now begin installing your app, once installed you can run it via the the Applications folder in the Menu.

Hope this helps you in solving yoru issue.

    Regards,

    jar files

Fixing .jar file opening on Windows requires two steps:

    • Open the Control Panel, and chose "Default Programs - Associate a File type or protocol with a program". Find .jar extension (Executable JAR file) there, and pick Java as default program to open this extension. It will probably be listed as "Java Platform(SE)".
A faster alternative perhaps is straightforward right-click on a .jar file, and then change associated program by clicking on the "Change..." button.
    • Now open the regedit, and open the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\jarfile\shell\open\command key. Luckilly for us, we may specify parameters there for the (Default) value. This is normally: C:\Program Files\Java\jre7\bin\javaw.exe" -jar "%1" %*

I Hope this Answers your Question!

    I cannot install JAR files

    .java to .jar file

As a side note to Easy Rhinos comment, you can only jar .class files, meaning that you need to compile all the .java files and them jar the .class files resulting from the compilation. Example:
    Code: javac Test.java jar cf Teste.jar Test.class[/quote]
