Windows 10: I cannot update windows

Backup, Backup Windows, should show you a picture of your partitions and those related to your complete Windows installation - that would be necessary for restoration to a new drive should your old one fail is a good way to think about this - should be ticked for you.

The only oddity is that Win 10 upgrades sometimes generate a second Recovery partition (one is then redundant) and Macrium will select both.

 

For now, I would select Image this disk, and grab every partition.






Then, go into Advanced Options:





Select "Verify", so Macrium will make sure the image is good.

 

I set it to start but it says it takes 3 hrs... is this normal?

 

If you have a very large drive with a ton of data on it, it could take a long time, yes. Another issue could be the data transfer rate between the computer and the backup drive. This can be due to something as simple as the use of USB2 instead of USB3, or even a failing drive which slows down the read/write process.





In my experience, the "verify" part will take just as long as the backup.

 

I dont have space for the backup. it says I have used 184 gigs on my SSD but I only have a few games installed and no videos or music so honestly I have no idea whats taking so much space...

The used space on my drive C: is just 16.1 GB.

 

I'm not quite following you here. Where are you trying to put the backup?
Perhaps post a screenshot of Macrium showing the drives connected to the system?

I found out whats taking so much space, its mostly my games like world of warcraft. Is it possible to take a backup without the games?

 

You need to make the backup image on an external drive.

 

I only have two usb flash drives...

 

So have I, but I will buy more whenever the need arises.

 

I got two usb flashdrives with 64 GB each so I will have to make the image fit into one of them.. is there some option to take back up of windows without all my games?

 

I went ahead and downloaded the creators update... I got most of my important files on backup on my usb drives anyway... will now try to update windows and come back with the results

 

No one else collects flash drives?
