Windows 10: I cannot verify my identity on my laptop and forgot my pin, and trying to use another...

I changed my Microsoft account's mobile phone number slightly more than a month ago, and today from my smartphone I changed my account's password and successfully logged into my Windows 10 laptop using the new password. However, although I was able to update the password on OneDrive, I find myself unable to update said password on other apps like Mail and even Settings.


Also, I am trying to verify my identity on Settings > Your Info, which asks me for my pin. But I forgot the pin, and when I click on "Use a method not listed here", the popup window says "Just a moment" but then suddenly closes, doing nothing. I then go to Sign-in options > Windows Hello Pin > I forgot my pin, same thing happens the Just a moment popup closes suddenly without achieving anything. I removed the Pin, confirmed it with the new password, and success - the pin was removed; but when I click to add a fresh-new pin, the Just a moment popup again fails to succeed.


So I'm stuck with the impossibility of verifying my identity on my laptop and the impossibility of logging into my Outlook account from the Mail app so for now I can only check my emails from the Edge browser or from my smartphone. What should I do?

Verifying identity on new laptop

Thanks for the advice, i am waiting to see what happens when i run the battery down on the laptop first, see how it starts when i plug it into the mains. if that does not work i will try what you suggest. thanks for replying though.

The new laptop I have is stuck on the Verify your identity page. It asks me how I would like to get my security code and the option I have set up is through my mobile phone. When I click on the button to SEND CODE it says there is a temporary problem but
this has been the message for days now so there is obviously a long term problem.

The other button on this page is I HAVE A CODE button. When I click on this and type in the code sent to my phone it says “that code didn’t work. Check the code and try again.”

I have now gone on my old laptop and opened up my Microsoft account, reset my password, which has meant I have been sent a new code to verify my identity. I have tried this code on my new laptop but that also says “that code didnt work. Check the code and
try again.”

I just cannot move off these pages. My wife said the laptop took a while to install Windows when she first started it so there must be some sort of operating system on it but there is no way I can restart the process so they send me another code. I am resorting
to letting the battery run down on the new laptop and see where it starts from when I plug it in to the mains. At the moment when I shut the laptop and open it back up I am on the same Verify your Identity page.

 

Verifying identity on new laptop

I cannot verify the identity on my new laptop. it seems stuck on that page, with the identity codes i have tried not being accepted. When i went on my old laptop and requested a new password they sent me a code to verify a change of password and that worked
fine on my old laptop. I have tried the old code and the new code on my new laptop but neither have been accepted.

 

“We need to verify your identity”,

I have received this code about a 100 times, either to my phone or my e-mail. It lasts about an hour or two, then I get the “We need to verify your identity” pop-up again.

Two-step sign in is not activated.

I also noticed that on the "My devices" page, my desktop PC is shown with detailed info, like motherboard type, Windows 10 Core (10.0.10586.63), etc.

But my other computer, the laptop, is just listed as "PC". No other information is available, not Windows version, no hardware details, nothing. That laptop is the only one that gets this annoying “We need to verify your identity” despite me having entered
the code over a hundred times in any available way.

I am quite certain that the fact that not detailed PC or Windows information is closely related to the “We need to verify your identity” problem.
