Windows 10: I can't disable windows update driver installation

I'm afraid this setting is not enough to prevent Windows Update replacing a driver. I have tried myself. To really stop Windows Update from messing with the drivers you have to hide the relevant driver updates so they are ignored. Reinstall the working driver again, but before you restart run the tool in the link to detect the driver updates. Then hide them. Restart the computer. Next time new updates are installed, your drivers should not be affected.

 

Can someone please answer why win 10 works perfectly on my moms laptop, but always has problems on mine? I'm really curious as to why.

 

Different hardware, different compatibility. Windows 10 usually work out of the box (without installing any driver or tweaking) in new computers. If your computer is not that new, problems start.

 

Short answer: Drivers. Find yours at your computer manufacturer's website, and install them

 

I updated drivers before upgrading to ten and had problems. I didnt update any drivers before upgrading to 10 and still had problems. the intel celeron N2830 and N2840 processors aren't that much different. So I don't know. I might not be able to have 10 on my laptop which frustrates me.

 

Question: Does your computer manufacturer provide windows ten drivers for your computer?

 

yes. I went to the website one time after upgrading to 10 and updated some drivers and still had problems.

 

So to refresh... You followed brinks tutorial to disable auto installation, restarted... Are you encountering any further problems, computer crashes, etc?

 

I actually had to do another factory restore which put me back to 8.1 because when I have ten my pc locks up every time I restart. The locking up problem is the only one I've had with 10 that I can't deal with.

 

Windows Setup replaces all drivers from Windows Update, no matter if they work or not. To fix problems, you must reinstall all drivers starting from chipset after the upgrade to 10.
