Windows 10: I can't install DirectX (Internal Error)

Discus and support I can't install DirectX (Internal Error) in Windows 10 Gaming to solve the problem; When i try to install the DirectX runtimes that come with Team Fortress 2 (DirectX Redist 2010) on my laptop (Windows 10 and DirectX 12), the setup...     I can't install DirectX (Internal Error)


    When i try to install the DirectX runtimes that come with Team Fortress 2 (DirectX Redist 2010) on my laptop (Windows 10 and DirectX 12), the setup seems to progress but ends in an Internal Error (refering to the DXError.log file).


    I have tried to toggle my antivirus (Avast) off and run the installer as an administrator. I also tried to do the whole process on safe mode but it still ends in an error.


    The DXError.log file says this:

    internal error occured while installing directX

    I tried to install a game called warframe. The data was downloaded properly and needed directX to be installed which it did automatically. The setup unfortunately failed as directX couldn't be installed and the game is now unplayable as long as i don't install
    directX. I tried installing DirectX through web installers and through offline installer but both gave the errors as follows:

    An internal system error occurred.

    Please refer to DXError.log and DirectX.log in your windows folder to determine problem.

    I've tried different versions of directx but all give the same error.

    What can i do now?

    To assist you better, please answer the below:


    • Which version of DirectX are you trying to install?

    • What is the current build installed on your computer?

      (To check the build, Press Windows + R keys to open
      Run command, type Winver
      and press Enter)

    • Have you made any changes on the computer prior to this issue?

    • What is the current version of DirectX installed on Windows 10?


    I suggest you to install all the updates on your computer.

    Follow the steps below:


    • Click on search
      bar, type Windows Update.

    • Select Check for Update.

    • Download and
      Install the latest Windows Updates.


    I also suggest you to refer the link on How to install the latest version of DirectX and check if it helps.

    • Which version or build of Windows device are you using? To know, press
      Windows + R       to open the Run window. Type
      winver and press Enter. A new window will open showing the version and build number of your Windows device.
    • What is the exact make and model of your computer?
    • Have you played this game before?
    • Have you already updated your graphics card driver?
    • Have you already updated your BIOS drivers?
    • What were the recent changes made on your computer before you experienced this issue?
    • What troubleshooting steps have you done so far?
    • What is the version of your DirectX? To know, follow these steps:
      • Press Windows + S to open Search Box.
      • Type dxdiag, then click it.
      • In the System tab, check your DirectX version.
