Windows 10: I Don't like Windows Ten.

Discus and support I Don't like Windows Ten. in Windows 10 Support to solve the problem; Windows 10 does absolutely nothing to improve image quality in games like that. Maybe you got newer drivers during the install for your video chipset.... Discussion in 'Windows 10 Support' started by xXTenXx, Jul 29, 2015.

    I Don't like Windows Ten.

Depending on how well your video card supports DirectX 12, it can have big impacts on your game's quality, at least in performance.

The OS, and drivers, supporting DX12 is only half of it. The game has to support it as well and none do currently. The post I quoted specifically said "Even some of my old games have shown a visual improvement." - DX12 would have nothing to do with that either. It's either a placebo effect or some other side benefit of using newer drivers, updated color profiles, etc. that happened during the upgrade. It's nice, but "Windows 10" doesn't auto-upgrade games to "better HD" remains my point *Smile

  3. Upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 yesterday; liked it to start with and then......

I found I had to re-install my printer and scanner from disk but, of course, the UAC didn't like it. Honestly, what is the point of the thing telling you to "contact the administrator".......when I am the administrator? So I had to turn off UAC which I did using the slider control only that wouldn't work, after several re-boots, either so I had to manually adjust the registry entry.

I now find that such items as Microsoft Edge, Mail and even the Solitaire Collection don't work......unless I turn UAC back on!

And all this ridiculous stuff about linking it up to Microsoft Live/XBox and whatever......and can I please have my original computer name back!

Why the heck does Microsoft make things so difficult? I'm seriously thinking of ditching W10 and going back to W7 where at least I felt I had some control over my computer.....

    I Don't like Windows Ten.

I can't comment on visual eye candy improvements, but performance wise, it apparently will improve existing games.

Only thing I had to reinstall was my video drivers and printer... the printer installed from Windows Update and the drivers work better than the Windows 7 version did and the printer is every bit of 10 years old... since I've seen posts for it dating back to 2004.

I do turn UAC off though, because it's more of annoyance than anything for me. Not had any issues with it off though.

The black screens were probably caused by your anti-virus programs. Quite frankly, I'm surprised it worked. You are supposed to turn them off first.

I'm on my 5th install and haven't turned anything off, installs have gone good. On a 1Mbps connection it does take some time, 4 to 5 hours download and another 30 to 50 minutes install.

Placebo effect would be my guess. I played games all weekend on my computer and upgraded it at the end of the weekend and after installing new Nvidia drivers I played game some more (note to self: Get a life!) and the performance was identical in the games that I played using the Steam FPS counter, and the looks... well... Nothing looked any different to me.

Just like when I go into a mechanic shop and all they need to do is put my car up on the lift and I *swear* my truck runs better after it's been up on a lift, even if they didn't touch anything LOL. Yup, that's my little placebo.

And the real-time scanning of your virus program has a lot to do with that. I upgraded an Asus eeePC 9" netbook (the original) in less than an hour without a single issue, including the download and installation.

Likewise, I used the MCT and downloaded and was inside Windows 10 in about an hour.

  10. Does this mean that you can still access features such as Edge and Mail with UAC turned off? I would love to be able to use them but cannot with UAC removed.

Yes my UAC is off and Edge works fine. I don't use the Mail app, but I tested it and it starts.
What is irritating is that by default when opening command prompt it always starts with limited privilege unless you manually start it with 'Run as Administrator' even though I am using an administrator account.

I started a new install this AM after finding 4 failures in the Windows Updates. Seems the Upgrade to Win10 didn't work well with Wi-Fi, I plugged in an Ethernet cable and all is good after only 2.4 hours.

Only if the existing games are updated to support it. Look, this stuff isn't magic *Smile It's an API for hardware. A game written for DX9 or 11 doesn't know about the new, updated features or the new improvements in DX12, in fact those games don't know the DX12 API exists at all. They aren't even going to use the it, they will continue to use the DX9/11 API they were written for. That's how it works.

If, for example, a game like BF4 gets updated to support DX12 - it happens, every once and while - then sure, improvements galore (maybe. Not always). Otherwise, no, DX12 means nothing for old games. *Smile

From what I've heard, previous games will stand to improve performance-wise from DX12, even if they aren't out of the box DX12 games, again, so I've heard.

Here's a good read, from what I saw glancing through it:
Tested: DirectX 12's potential performance leap is insane | PCWorld
