Windows 10: I Don't like Windows Ten.

The only windows worse than 10 is 8. I am seriously considering going back to 7 though...

 

Have you forgotten or just overlooked ME?

 

ME wasn't an OS in itself. It was a 32-bit extension to a 16-bit overlay for an 8-bit DOS.

my only gripe is Windows Update, and no control over some pinned apps. in "All Programs".

 

If you don't want to listen, you won't listen. I'm not sure you even read the article you linked, which actually reinforced the point I was trying to make. Even the last sentence of the article states:

"We won't know for sure until actual DirectX-12-enabled games ship. Microsoft estimates that will be the end of this year. "

DirectX 12 will have zero affect on games that don't use it. That means old games. But go on believing what you want. I'm sure Bigfoot is out there too.

Pretentious is attempting to impress by affecting greater importance, talent, culture, etc., than is actually possessed. That's not what I'm doing, I'm simply repeating facts. "Sarcastic" or even "Sardonic" - that I would own up to at this point *Smile

But Windows 10 still uses WDDM 2.0, so there might be some performance improvement in Windows 10 even for games without DX12 support. That is, if WDDM acts separately from DX12.

 

I do remember Vista being the worst.

 

I'm not trying to be a jerk, honestly. I'm just repeating facts anyone can dig up with a little solid research on their own. Like the original comment (which was specifically about DX12), this one is just wishful thinking. WDDM 2.0 was implemented so drivers could support DX12. It's not a magical fix that is going to make drivers work better across the board. If anything, initially we can probably expect things to be a bit unstable as manufacturers figure it out - WDDM 2.0 is a big change. Nvidia certainly had it's hands full during the preview release and arguably still does.

If games don't support DX12 they aren't going to see any benefit just from Windows 10. Period. That's the long and the short answer. Could manufacturers release new drivers that improve the way old games perform and look? Sure, that happens all the time (and the changes are usually pretty subtle). Could the fact that people are upgrading, doing fresh installs, the OS handles memory better, etc. have an overall net positive effect? Maybe, depends on the use case. However that has nothing to do with any of the new capabilities in 10, which is what all this hand waving started over *Smile

DX12 (and WDDM 2.0) are potentially great new features in Windows 10. We'll know a lot more when games that actually support them come out, and the development houses behind them have time to "settle in" and take advantage of the new features....not all will, just as was the case with earlier versions.

 

Vista was just like 7 - except for people with low grade PC hardware (which there were a lot of at the time of Vista's release).

 

Hmm do you think Vista was a rush release of 7, I bought a Laptop with Vista pre installed and within a week put on XP worked much better and much faster. I have been running OS's since Windows 95 and the keepers were 95,98,XP,7 and now at this moment in time 10.

u use uac can be a bit annoying but in a sense its good cause it will make the normal people think for a second wait I'm installing something what is it. that what in the sense its suppose to do. me i actually have a admin account i don't use and then i use a standard user account so even if i let someone else use my PC they cant install anything they need the password. i do this to alot of my friends computer who aren't computer savvy so then i install what they want remotely with team viewer gotta be approved by me and i do this with my parents computer and you know what i spend less time fixing them from tools malware and virus's
