Windows 10: I got limited startup options since the last windows10 update.

Hello world,

Since the last windows 10 update I am likmited in the start up options. normally I would engage task management and go in to the startup tab and deactivate like 10-15 programs. But since the update the list is down to 6 programs I can deactivate, but I notice it takes like double the time to fully startup now..
Any thoughts?

Windows update has hung my desktop and I have no boot disk or usb.

I never wanted Windows 10, but got sick of the GWX badgering.

last night (9/23/16) Microsoft hit me with the big anniversary update and today it won't boot up past the initial startup screen. If I hit escape, it gives me startup menu on a blue box, but nothing gets me to boot in safe mode where I can undo this infernal
update.

i have read that Microsoft is aware of the bug, but since they don't have a fix, they are providing limited advice that doesn't help. Any ideas out there?

Hello, I noticed about 4 programs which normally started on log-on did so no longer after an update - two updates back I think- I just re-enabled them. Often there's an option in the program to do so, unless you've manually added them to start-up.

That seems to have been an exceptional experience though.

I can't account for your longer startup time. Technical analysis of that is a bit involved.

Start with a basic disk check:
From an admin command prompt
[Windows key + X, click command prompt (admin)]
chkdsk C: /F
Your PC will need to restart.
Make sure the result is clear or fixed- else do not proceed.
