Hello, I have recently purchased a new device with preloaded win 10 home because my old pc had some serious hardware issues but it has a working hard drive with genuine windows 10 pro preloaded. I can extract it's key and completely uninstall it from that
hard drive to use it to upgrade my new device from windows 10 home to pro. Some people said this is possible by some "telephone method" because of a rule that you can only use a key in only one device, so in this condition if I uninstalled windows from previous
device and extract key for win pro and use it, maybe Microsoft would blacklist my key which will make it practically useless as Microsoft doesn't know that I have no PC running on that key(my old device' product key is also linked with my Microsoft account),
so I have to use that telephone method. and now my question, is everything I wrote above is correct? if no then can you help me to upgrade my new device to pro? or is it not possible and my old device and it's Rs. 12000 key is wasted? please do help.

*Correction: I have upgraded from win 8.1 to 10 where 8.1 was installed by a local engineer, so it should be the retail version

No, you can't do what you are suggesting, because the Windows 10 Pro license you mentioned is pre-loaded on the old machine. OEM licenses as they are called are not transferable. Only if the Windows 10 Pro was a retail store bought license would be able
to do that. Otherwise, you have to purchase an entirely new full version license for the Windows 10 Home computer you now have.

Open Start > Settings > Update & security > Activation > Go to Store

Activate product key of old device to another device

Hello! I have a question about Windows product key on my old laptop. Will it work , if I activate that key (old's laptop product key) on another device?
