I have started to hear a sound signal every 15 seconds or so and it seems to be independent of what I am doing.

I have tried to turn the sound to "None" for things like receiving mail. that did not help.

Then I used the Control Panel > Sounds and selected no system sounds, but I still get the repeated sound anyway. The sound volume and mute in the taskbar does not affect it any.

    :)

    Good surround sound headset

I know you say you're not that guy, but stepping into the $250+ range really brings a change in build quality that might have you never having to buy another set. Otherwise, getting 6 speakers with decent sound in a headset is hard, and that's what you are asking for, and I have no suggestions, but just a bump up the list. *Stick Out Tongue I have started to hear a sound signal every 15 seconds or so and it seems to be independent... :p
