  1. I need help, duplicate folders of important folders, slightly unaware of what happened.

Recently I tried accessing hidden images on discord which were stored in a cache folder, I tried a console command but it didn't work, so I decided to change one image files extension to png and I saw what it was, but then I tried accessing my music folder only to be greeted with the error "Location is not available C:\Users\taimes\Music is unavailable. If the location is on this PC, make sure the device or drive is connected or the disc is inserted, and then try again. If the location is on a network, make sure you're connected to the network or internet, and then try again. If the location still can't be found, it might have been moved or deleted." I got the same error when accessing 3d objects, my original pictures folder, and my videos. So i had no choice but to access it through my c drive and I found out that there is two folders for downloads, contacts, searches, and videos. The second folders are empty but the original ones have all of my previous files, and the strange part is that when I click on the location in the file explorer search bar they come up with a .png extension: C:\Users\taime\Music.png, C:\Users\taime\Downloads.png, C:\Users\taime\Videos.png, and C:\Users\taime\3D Objects.png and C:\Users\taime\Pictures.png. I tried restoring the default location on the desktop but that didn't work. I tried scanning my drive but it came up with no errors.

Please help, any advice would be appreciated, I don't know how to fix this, I may have accidentally renamed the extensions somehow but I'm still not sure.

    :)

  2. Duplicate Public Folders

    Hi,

To further identify the cause of this problem, can you provide us the following information?

    • What happens when you delete the duplicate folders?
    • Does it happen to all of your folders or only those with pictures?
    • Any steps you've tried to troubleshoot this issue?

    Regards.

  3. Duplicate Public Folders

Hope this helps someone identify the problem.

    • Q: What happens when you delete the duplicate folders?
    • A: Nothing. They're successfully deleted.

    • Q: Does it happen to all of your folders or only those with pictures?
      • A: Only the default Public Folders (Documents, Pictures, Music, Videos).
      • A: All of the Public Folders have customized folder icons.
      • A: The above image shows yellow, empty folder icons (duplicates).

    • Q: Any steps you've tried to troubleshoot this issue?
      • Actually, this has been a problem since Windows 7.
      • What I noticed then is that certain Windows programs created the duplicates:
        • Windows Media Player (stopped using)
        • Internet Explorer (stopped using)
        • Plus others, which I can't recall.
      • Only certain programs for Windows 10, as well:
        • Microsoft Edge (don't use it often)
        • Groove Music (never intentionally use it)
        • Plus others, which I haven't tracked.
          • I only notice it when I go to Public Folders.
          • By then, I've long since forgotten what was accessed.
      • I've googled for answers but most of those only address
moving the Public Folders to another Drive.

?? How do I PW protect Folders in windows

    hmmm?
Sharing files and folders overview You can share the files and folders stored on your computer, on a network, and on the Web. The method you choose depends on whom you want to share files with, and what computer they will use to access the files.

When you share files or folders, they are not as protected as they are when you do not share them. People with access to your computer or your network might be able to read, copy, or change files that are in a shared folder. You should always be aware that the files and folders that you share are available to other people and be sure to monitor your shared files and folders on a regular basis.

    Important

If your computer is not joined to a domain, you can use the Network Setup Wizard to automatically turn file and printer sharing on or off. To start the Network Setup Wizard, click Start, click Control Panel, click Network and Internet Connections, and then click Network Setup Wizard.
If you both use the same computer

You can put the files you want to share in the Shared Documents folder. Files stored in the Shared Documents folder or its subfolders are always available to other users on your computer.

    Step-by-step procedure
    Note

If you are connected to a network domain, the Shared Documents, Shared Pictures, and Shared Music folders are not available.
If both computers are on the same network

You can share a folder or drive on your computer with others on the network. You can also control whether the files in the shared folder can be modified by other users.

If your computer is connected to a network domain, use this procedure:

    Step-by-step procedure
If your computer is connected to a workgroup, use this procedure:

    Step-by-step procedure
    Note

If you are connected to a network domain, you will need to set the Access control for the folder or drive after sharing it. For more information, go to To set, view, change, or remove file and folder permissions.
If you want to share your files online

You can publish pictures and documents on the Web using the Web Publishing Wizard. The files will be stored in a private, online folder that you manage.

    Step-by-step procedure

If you don't want others to access your files

You can prevent other users from accessing your folders and the files they contain. When your computer is connected to a domain, this is called setting permissions for your file or folder. When your computer is connected to a workgroup, this is called making your folders private.

If your computer is connected to a network domain, use this procedure:

    Step-by-step procedure
If your computer is connected to a workgroup, use this procedure:
