  1. I need help finding cabling to connect two SSD SATA III for cloning

    Hi everyone,

I am trying to find out the cabling to connect two SATA III drives together so I can clone the SDD in my new Win 10 desktop SDD to the replacement SDD i bought to install in my old win 7 machine so I have a backup PC ready to go.

I am connecting SATA III to SATA III, both are SDD. (Micron M550 to Samsung 860 EVO both 250GB)

All the cloning software you can use assumes the drives are already connected but a newbie like me cannot figure out how to connect the two.

    :)

  2. Boot Problem after SSD Clone on windows 10

I just installed a Sandisk SSD Plus to replace HDD in a budget Acer Aspire desktop. Using the cloning software download Sandisk provides, Acronis, my system would not boot.

After some research I downloaded the free version of Aomei Backupper and 'recloned' the SSD following the instructions. Shutdown the computer, connected the SSD to the SATA cable the HDD was connected to - no issue boot up.

You may want to repeat the clone process with different software.

    Advice from a non-professional, semi-serious hobbyist.

  3. Unable to Boot to Windows 10 after Cloning old SSD to new SSD

    Hi,

I'm not using the SATA ports. I'm using M.2 with the SSD, and the external SSD is connected to my PC using USB. My MB only has only one M.2 socket, so I can only plug in one SSD at a time. (I bought a wrong adapter that doesn't work with NVMe) So I cloned
my old SSD to an external SSD (Samsung M3 Portable SSD), and then swapped the old one, cloned the external SSD to my new SSD.

I tried AOMEI too, but the free version does not come with disk clone functions. I would probably try Macrium Reflect as suggested above. Thank you!

Unable to Boot to Windows 10 after Cloning old SSD to new SSD

When you say 'recovered the image to the new SSD'. Did you clone from the HDD to new SSD, and why the round about method ?

I've never cloned to an external drive, with the exception of when the machine has an external hot swap SATA port, but I

have cloned from SSD to HDD and back again using a SATA connection without any issues.

The boot sector should get written to the new drive by the cloning software (I use AOEMI ). The software also sorts out

alignment differences between HDD and SSD.

If there is a problem booting with the new drive, if you swap the SATA ports so the new drive is connected to the port the

old was connected to and vice-versa, the boot sector should get written to the new drive when you reboot.
