Windows 10: I/O error status of 0xc0000010

I am running Windows 10 [Version 10.0.17134.829].


After reboot and login, I am receiving an error message "The required data was not placed into memory because of an I/O error status of 0xc0000010". After receiving this error message the laptop is unable to start any programs or bring up Task Manager. The only option I have is it hold down the power button to force a reboot. What does I/O error status of 0xc0000010 indicate?

Having used the application successfully for several months it now fails to open with message below - any suggestions for cause or cure?

Does anyone know the origin of this problem and/or how to fix?

This I/O message seems to result in my PC running extremely slowly despite repeated rebooting.

The message appears to be generated by explorer.exe--Application Error

The instruction at 0x00007FF8B6BC557C referenced memory at 0x00000000A4F0008. The required data was not placed into memory because of an I/O error status of 0xc000009c.

Click on OK to terminate the program (doesn't work).
