  1. I replaced my HDD with an SSD and now windows won't activate

I recently bought an ssd for my desktop PC as my old hdd was getting a bit slow and full. I plan on keeping the old hdd for extra storage.

I installed the ssd and installed a fresh version of windows 10 on the ssd. I have a windows 10 pro license or enterprise, I'm not sure as my ms account says it's pro but the activated version on my hdd was enterprise. I acquired this license through an action pack a few years ago and activated windows manually when I bought my pc as it didnt come with windows pre-installed.

The license is linked to my ms account and so I assumed that would activate it. However, after logging in it didn't activate. I've tried installing both pro and enterprise and I've also retrieved the key from the registry not with cmd as that didnt work but when I try to add a new key it says it's invalid.

I've thought about cloning my hdd onto the ssd but would prefer a fresh start. I don't know what to try anymore! Thanks in advance!

    :)

  2. Windows 10 activate After HDD to SSD Replacement

If I replace the HDD with an SSD and do a clean install of windows 10, the Microsoft activation server should recognize my system and activate it, or not?

  3. Replacing hdd with ssd in a laptop.

    Hey,

I have an acer laptop that has an hdd with windows 10. I would like to replace this hdd with an ssd, but with a clean install of windows 10. Is there a way to transfer win 10 and activate it onto the ssd.

The laptop does not have an additional hdd option.

    Thanks in advance.

    Regards,

  4. I replaced my HDD with an SSD and now windows won't activate

Does Windows 10 automatically recognise that a SSD has replaced a HDD?

I have recently replaced the HDD in my Windows 10 laptop with a SSD. As I understand it, Windows periodically runs a defragmentation in the background on a HDD. However, SSD drives do not require defragmenting and running such a tool can shorten the life
    of a SSD.

The SSD was a clone of the HDD and not a new installation. Will Windows 10 recognize that the laptop now has a SSD and stop its background defragmentation or do I need to take specific steps to prevent this activity occurring on the SSD? If I need to take
action please advise on the steps I should take.

Thanks for any advice anyone can offer.
