  1. I think my hard drive has partitioned into 3 volumes

Since approximately 2 weeks ago, on Startup - before typing in my log in credentials 4 digit pass code - my PC screen shows a blue screen with 3 Windows Volumes, with the first one highlighted. I click on that 1st volume and access my Windows 11 log in page, where I type in my 4 digit pass code. This never occurred before, i.e., somehow my hard drive has been partitioned into 3 drives. How do I resolve this issue?

    :)

  2. hard partition

    Hi Prasad,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

I understand that you are trying to extend the Volume of Drives and create partitions from C: drive.

I would suggest you to follow the steps and check if it helps you.

    • Press Windows + R keys, type diskmgmt.msc hit
      enter.
    • Disk management will open. Right click on the C: drive
below in the segments of the partitions.
    • Select Shrink Volume. Select the Amount of space
you want to extend in MBs (1GB = 1024MB).
    • Follow the instruction and check if it creates a Unallocated Drive.
Later after the Unallocated drive is created follow the below steps to crate a partition.

    • Right click on the Unallocated drive and select
      New Simple Volume.
    • Select the Drive letter and follow the instructions and check if it
      creates a partition.
    • Follow the same to Create partition.
Note: C: drive must be not less than 100GB if you are using a 1TB hard drive. partitions must not be more than 3 drives to have a better functioning of the system.

Keep us posted to help you better.

    W7 Hard drive partition issue

to get rid of that 100 meg windows partition that setup creates for you on a new install on a blank hdd:

    - press shift+f10 when on the partition management screen in setup <-- this opens a command prompt
    - diskpart <-- start the windows command line partition management tool
    - list disk <--- list the installed hdds in this computer for the next step
    - select disk 0 <- might have to replace 0 with the number of the correct disk
    - clean <-- this will erase all data on the disk you selected one step up- dont use the wrong disk!
    - create partition primary <- creates a primary partition taking up all space on the drive, adjust the command if necessary
    - exit, exit to exit diskpart and the command prompt
    - click refresh in partition manager and select your newly created partition and install to that

    remove external hard drive partitions

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft community.

If you are logged in as an administrator, you can repartition your hard disk by using the Shrink feature in Disk Management. You can shrink an existing partition or volume to create unallocated disk space, from which you can create a new partition
    or volume.

You may follow the step below and check if it helps:

    • Connect the external hard drive.

    • Press Windows Key and click on Disk Management.

    • Right-click the volume you want to shrink, and then click
      Shrink Volume.

    • Follow the instructions

You may also refer to the steps below and check if it helps:

    Open cmd with admin rights

    1. Run Diskpart application by typing Diskpart

    2. In the “Diskpart” prompt, enter rescan command and press Enter key to re-scan all partitions, volumes and drives available.

    3. Then type in list disk and press Enter key to show all hard disk drive available.

    4. Select the disk that contains the partition you want to remove. Normally, with just 1 hard disk, it will be disk 0. So the command will be:

    select disk 0

    5. Finish by Enter key.

    6. Type list partition and press Enter key to show all available and created partition in the disk selected.

    7. Select the partition that wanted to be deleted by using the following command, followed by Enter key:

    select partition x

where x is the number recovery partition to be removed and unlocked its space. Be careful with the number of this partition, as wrong number may get data wipes off.

Finally, type in delete partition override and press Enter key.

Disclaimer: Be sure to back up any data you want to keep before you begin.

Hope this helps to resolve your issue. If the problem persist please revert back to us we are glad to help you.
