Windows 10: I uninstalled IDE ata/atapi controllers and unistalled dvd drive to resolve dvd drive not...

I uninstalled IDE ata/atapi controllers and unistalled dvd drive to resolev dvd drive not showing in Win 10, now I cannot use laptop.


It is a Lenovo laptop, boots up to the login screen, after entering the logon credential thna nothing. I have rebooted 3 times already , just got a black screen. Pressing control/Alt/Delete takesme to the task manager.

I accidentally uninstalled IDE ata/atapi controllers because CD/DVD drive didn't shown up in This PC not in the BIOS. Then I found an unplugged wire in CPU, that was the problem. I connected it. Now, there is no CD/DVD drive nor a IDE ata/atapi controller
which are important to show up CD/DVD drive. What should I do. I made this PC (CUSTOM PC). Help needed!

We did read your post and this is why we have provided a possible work around about your concern.

If the work around provided didn't work, try doing the following:

• Launch the Device Manager and look for the DVD drive and IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers.
• Uninstall the DVD drive and IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers and restart your computer.
• After your computer restarts, re-install the DVD drive and IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers.

Let us know what happens after doing the mentioned troubleshooting steps.

However, we can go ahead and try few steps to see if we can resolve this issue.

Method 1: Check hidden devices in Device Manager.

1. Press Windows Key +x
2. Click Device Manager
3. Go to Views tab and click on Show hidden devices from the drop-down menu.
4. Then search for hidden drivers if any IDE ATA /ATAPI DRIVER
   are listed.
5. Uninstall all the hidden drivers and reboot the PC, and check if that helps.

I also suggest you to refer this article on
Your CD or DVD drive is not recognized by Windows or other programs, and check if that helps.
