Windows 10: Ibm ps/1

I cranked up my IBM PS/1 from 1993, she of the 386SX and 2 Megs of RAM, souped up to a 486SX with, wait for it, 6 Meg of RAM!

I connected it to the Network and let it simmer overnight. Shows up in File Manager now. Whoop!

Windows 10 error 0X80073b01 and Windows updater broken, stuck in upgrade/revert cycle.

My PC is an IBM Clone. i7 920, EVGA Classified X58, 3 SSD Drives, 12 gig Crucial triple channel memory, EVGA GTX 980 Ti GPU. Claro Halo XT sound card. 850 watt PS,

Windows 10 Pro.

 

Nokia E7 without Lotus notes support?

The distribution is currently through IBM with the following steps:



1. Upgrade the IBM Lotus Notes Traveler 8.5.3 server release.

2. Within the server installation package there is also the new client for Symbian Anna.

3. The client can be downloaded to Nokia Symbian^3 devices from the enterprise server.

 

Good machine. My first in '92 was a Hewitt Rand with an AMD 80386DX/40MHz CPU, 2MB RAM and 120MB HDD running Win3.1 on top of MS-DOS 5. First upgrade was to 4MB RAM and second to a 210MB HDD. Interestingly, got a similar one given me last fall [came out of some MI-area law enforcement department], only issue is the CMOS battery is shot [leaked], soldered on but just have to reset the BIOS when booting up and computer works fine.

OS/2 was far better back then than Windows -- what might have been if IBM and Ms had continued working together instead of squabbling - we really could have had a great OS with the security and stabilty of a Mainframe with the flexibility for home users to add all sorts of hardware without endless driver / network / security problems --imagine some decent security like RACF on a home system !!!. - But Not to be unfortunately.

Read the link here on RACF - nobody has ever broken it yet from the OUTSIDE - inside jobs of course are a different matter and can break ANY system - even the USA's NSA. -- the description Error is misleading - it actually takes you to the correct page !!!!!

IBM Knowledge Center Error

(Not wanting Politics - but an example -- been in the UK for a while last week - still about 50% of population at odds with other half over "Brexit" -- solutions are always to work together whether it's Politics or technology or anything else .)

A robust OS/2 system with the marketing of Ms - and adding HOME users which IBM didn't really bother about would have been an absolute WORLD BEATER.

Shame actually on BOTH IBM and Ms - although fortunately Ms kept Windows going - in spite of the most "User aggressive" and useless OS ever known to man as far as home users were concerned -- "Windows N.T" - or Windows Neanderthal as we called it back then or Windows No Thanks.

Apart from Networking which has always been a Windows problem - Windows 10 is a great OS - especially for home and small business users - but I still go for Linux for file / media / NAS server systems !!.

The PS/1 had IBM DOS 4.01 and win 3.0

 

After much fluting about I managed to get my Sound Blaster 2.0 8-bit card to work.

Great way to get out of chores.


EDIT: Managed to get the Quad screen as well.

 

I had a couple racks of PS/2's that we used for Token Ring (LAN) Bridges. Very solid machines.
Never had a PS/1, though.

Also had a 486 machine running OS/2 and IBM LAN Network Manager. It was better than Windows 3.0 (the current version at the time).

 

Was quite surprised the ps/1 was still working

 

I worked for Barclay Bank and they used o/s2 until recantly and it still runs some cash machines way ahead of its time it broke the limit on hd disk size built in. I started with a 808 and dos one then moved up to 286,386, 486 the best thing was desqview and quemm it would load 10 programs while windows was still loading the good old day wordstar, lotus 123, word perfect, gem, dbase pctools and norton utils I still have all the old software on floppy disk. Old drives you had to low leval format and set the interleave
