  1. Icon Cache seems upset about something

I'm having a bizarre issue with icons disappearing and displaying a "white page".

I have deleted the icon cache multiple times and restarted explorer which seems to be a temporary fix. I have not done much more troubleshooting than that to see if there are certain behaviors that are contributing to this.

One thing I have noticed is that the icons seem to not disappear on the desktop, at least not that I have noticed. They do seem to disappear once I put them in a folder.

Here is some quick backstory. My PC is a gaming pc. I have a dedicated gaminh ssd that I am installing games to. The launchers (steam, epic games, battlenet) are installed to my boot drive. I primarily have the missing icons with the games and launchers. I would say it's about 50% of the apps missing their icons.

Any advice on how to go about permanently resolving this issue?

  2. Unable to delete Icon cache.

    Hi,

For us to narrow down your concern with deleting the icon cache, we would like to know the following:

    • Are you experiencing the exact same issue as the original thread?
    • What exactly is happening every 3 weeks?
    • Are you getting any error messages? If so, what is the exact error message (screenshot is much appreciated)?
    • To make sure that we have not missed on anything, aside from the steps you have mentioned, what other troubleshooting steps have you done so far to resolve the issue?

We look forward to your response.

  3. Edge Search Does Not Permit Change of Region

I got these suggestions from the Microsoft Community forum.No. 1 worked for me:

Thank you for posting the query on Microsoft Community. I am glad to assist you on this.
We have reproduce the issue here and we are able to access non-regional search for google using Microsoft Edge.
I would suggest you to try the below steps and check if it helps.
    Step 1:
Clear browsing data option of Microsoft Edge and check if you face the issue. To do so perform the steps below.

    1. Click on the More actions icon next to the feedback icon present on top right corner of the Project Spartan homepage.
    2. Select Settings and click on Choose what to clear.
    3. Check the boxes Browsing history, Cookies and saved website data and Cached data and files and click on Clear.
    Step 2:
I suggest you to create a new user account and check if the issue occurs.

    1. Go to Settings.
    2. Choose Accounts and then select Family and other users.
    3. Select add someone else on this PC.
    4. Enter a user name and hit next.
    5. Click on Finish.
    6. Sign out from the current Account and Log into the new account.
    Step 3:
It could also happen because of network issue. I suggest you to try with different network connection and check if it helps.

  4. Icon Cache seems upset about something

    Icon Caching Problem

    Folks,

I'm having an icon caching problem that I've not been able to solve. What precipitated this event was that I was trying to get Adobe Connect to work. From what I could tell Shockwave was having an argument with Windows 10. I've tried everything suggested on this board and others for fixing icon caching with no results. Short of reinstalling Windows, I'm out of ideas. I've tried:

    1) System Restore
    2) Last good backup (the external hard drive that I was using for backups turned out to be corrupt and toast)
    3) Manually and using .bat files deleting and rebuilding icon cache files
    4) Increasing via regedit the size of icon cache
    5) Replacing iconcache.db with good one
    6) Repairing Windows by in place upgrade

None of these measures have had any effect. Any other ideas?

    TIA,
