Windows 10: Icons in preview pane of pictures

I've recently purchased a Dell laptop. I uploaded my photos onto it from my hard drive.


The one drive app was also on the laptop.


The pictures for some reason linked to the one drive, the one drive filled up and then I no longer had the preview pane on my pics. Initially there were red crosses everywhere, and some red splodge icons.


I uninstalled the one drive app and now I have the blue mountain icon in my preview pane.


I have unchecked 'always show icons never thumbnails' in the View tab but makes no difference.


The only thing that helps is that if I open a photo and close it again it sometimes shows in the preview pane. But too many photos to do this for each one.


If there is no easy solution could I reset to factory settings and start again?


It is so frustrating as I only really bought the laptop to sort my photos out on.

Preview pane is not available while viewing the pictures

To assist you better, I would like to know the file format of the image that you would like to see in preview pane.

If the preview pane doesn’t appear, I suggest you to follow the steps and check if that helps to resolve the issue.

  Open the folder where the images are located.

  Click on View option at the top and choose
  Preview pane.
  
• 
  Now you will be able to see the images on the Preview pane.

preview/details pane in explorer

Hi,

Setting the Preview pane to show or hide in File Explorer will apply to all folders. If you wish to hide the Preview pane in File Explorer, we suggest that you follow the steps below:

• Open File Explorer.
• Tap on View tab.
• Click Preview Pane to view/hide it.

Video in the preview pane

Thank you so much for your reply.

What I really need to know is how get the video to play in the preview pane. Prior to Windows 10, this worked wonderfully and was an asset. Now, it requires making changes to the Windows registry - not recommended due to the enormous amount of issues with
Windows 10.

Any other suggestions?
