Ideas to reduce DPC latency and weird system pollings

    So,

I updated my machine from i5 with 8gb to i7 6700K that I run at 4.5Ghz with 16GB of 2600Mhz RAM and a VNAND drive right on the motherboard. Asus Maximus 8. With hopes of speeding up the system of course.

Well, it ain't working. The system is clearly slower than the old one was.

Of course there is a bit more oomph in calculation power and plenty of memory and it loads programs super fast...

BUT there is terrible DPC latency and weird holdups where the whole system sort of halts for a second or two even now and then. Latency monitor shows barely acceptable levels and peaks now and then so that even like video playback halts. Got hundreds of thousands of hard page faults in resource monitor.

I have tried removing each component both physically if possible or from Device Manager but nothing seems to help. It's like it just decides to suddenly peak everything. I tried not overclocking, even reinstalled win 10 twice clean and nothing seems to have any effect.

I'm guessing it is mostly a hardware thing then? The motherboard is clearly geared more towards gaming use not heavy AV work I use it for, maybe that is the issue? I tried not installing mobo drivers, swap memory module places, removing display card, sound card....no difference. BIOS safe values, hours of trying stuff there like disable virtualization, disable everything I don't absolutely need, disable USB, network, all I can...running out of ideas.

Anybody have ideas what more to try?

    :)

Are you using the Latency Mon program? or the DPC Latency Checker? The DPC Latency Checker is invalid for Win 8/10.

I have a home recording studio using Sonar. I haven't done many tweaks but I do have my power plan set to High Performance. Most of the recording forums suggest disabling Core Parking. My motherboard is an ASRock Z77 Professional Fatal1ty and also geared toward gaming but it works well for my recording studio. In fact that was why I chose it over some others when I built my system (it is "old" now in computer terms since its an i7 3770 but still functions well).

Latency monitor...It reports insane amounts of hard page faults.

Not sure what is core parking in the bios, but I have tried turning off power adjustments and such there.

Hi, noted you use Chrome- a while back some people attributed latency issues to Chrome, and a fix was found.

Have you tried a clean boot and then run LatencyMon?

Core parking is not in the BIOS. Its a Windows function.
This was posted on another forum and worked for the user with Win 10.
Coder Bag: CPU core parking manager

In reference to Chrome. I tried that on my DAW PC and I was getting noise and drop outs in Sonar. I uninstalled Chrome but it was still there. As it turned out the Google updater did not get uninstalled with the Chrome uninstall. I tried uninstalling the updater but it was still there. I finally had to manually edit the registry to remove all the updater entries. After I did that (and rebooted) the noise and drop outs in Sonar were gone.

BTW, I'm using a Roland Octa-Capture for my recording interface device. I only use it for recording. For regular PC audio I use the on-board Realtek.
