    If I delete a symlink, will it also delete the original file?


    Hi all. I have a question about symlinks in Windows 10. Let's say I do the following:

    • I add file-a to folder-a.
    • In folder-b I add a symlink to file-a.

    If I delete the symlink, will it also delete file-a? I believe the answer is 'no,' but just want to confirm.

    Also,


    • I know I can open the symlink. But can I modify it's contents, and save it? If so, what happens to file-a when that occurs--do the edits get saved to file-a as well?


    • Can I add a symlink to an entire folder, which in-turn creates symlinks to every file in the folder?

    Had a Question..it was deleted --.--

    our policy is to delete only spam/inappropriate posts.

    the only person who can "hard delete" posts on the forums is me .. everybody else can just soft-delete the posts, the original author will see those posts in the threads list with a comment why it was deleted.

    to the poster it will look like this, without "manage"

    Cannot delete files in Temp

    There are a few files that i cant delete in
    C:\Documents and Settings\1st User\Local Settings\Temp
    which are ~DF567B.tmp, ~DFB71E.tmp, ~ROMFN_000007A8 and Perflib_Perfdata_7a8.dat. And some times there are a few more.
    What are these files and why cant they be deleted?
