    If I delete the Recycle Bin, where does it go?


    So, you're able to delete the recycle bin by ending the Windows Explorer task and re-running it as explorer.exe /danger. If you do that and right-click on the Recycle Bin, there is an option to delete it do NOT try this at home. Of course, a system restore point was created to prevent permanent loss. Anyway, after deleting, I tried to delete a file, and it turns out that if there's no Recycle BIn, the file go to completely random places! I found one in SysWOW64. My question is where does the Recycle Bin itself go if deleted?

    To prevent your files from being deleted from the Recycle Bin, we suggest increasing the maximum file size your Recycle Bin can keep by following the steps below:

    • Right click on the Recycle Bin icon.
    • Under the Settings for selected location, select Custom size.
    • Fill up the box for your allotted maximum file size for your Recycle Bin.

    Recycle Bin was deleted

    Hi Raghav,

    If we, by mistake, deleted the Recycle Bin icon on our desktop, we can still recover it.

    Here are the steps to recover the Recycle Bin:

    • Go to Start.
    • Select Settings.
    • Choose Personalization > Themes > Desktop icon settings.
    • Check the box beside Recycle Bin, then press Apply.
    • Hit the OK button.
