Windows 10: If I upgrade from a pre-1607 Win 10 to 1809, will old drivers still work?

An example, ATi Mobility Radeon X1600 driver for Windows 7, from the laptop manufacturer, properly signed and all that. Works fine in old versions of Windows 10. I found a page on a Microsoft site about how driver signing was changed with version 1607 so that those old drivers won't *install* (even though there's nothing wrong with them!) but if 1607 is used to *upgrade* a prior version with older drivers it will keep them.


Does that still apply to 1809? I have a laptop that the only X1600 driver 1809 will allow to be installed is the VISTA WDDM driver from Microsoft Update Catalog. It won't even allow Microsoft's own Windows 7 driver for this GPU!


The *problem* with this is the Vista WDDM driver does not play well with power management. If the display turns off, or the laptop sleeps or hibernates, the screen stays black with only the mouse cursor upon wakeup or resume.


The power button then has to be held until the laptop shuts off, but just before it does, it removes the black to flash the proper desktop.

Win 10 1607 update

i quite like windows 10 apart from all these f-cking upgrades it thinks it needs to keep doing.. i ran my old win xp system for years with all upgrades turned off apart from doing the service packs when it suited me..

if the constant upgrade process worked it wouldnt be so bad but all this getting stuck somewhere along the line pisses me off big time.. its a monumental f-ck up..

Win 10 1607 Restart Issue


I am having a Win 10 1607 restart issue.

In my case the PC tries to restart but the monitor screen goes black and then the monitor screen powers off.

The PC keeps running but will not restart.

I have to push the reset button to restart the PC.

Shut down works fine.

In both restart and shutdown there are no spinning dots...

Can any one help with this restart issue.

I have tried most suggestions on the interwebz:////

My next step is to go back to the previously installed version 1511 in which restart worked then do an upgrade from the 1607 ISO I downloaded.

If this fails I will bite the bullet and do a clean install but I would rather just resolve the issue if I can as I have Win 10 running just the way I like it:///

 

The Ultimate Realtek HD Audio Driver Mod for Windows 10

Hey Dj Urko, I am trying to install the realtek driver and I get the error 0x0001. I have disabled secure boot and Driver signature. I have the latest win 10 build. What am I doing wrong? Can u post the complete list of steps that I have to take? I have an asus z170 with alc1150.
