Windows 10: I'm at my wits end. Asrock Z87 Extreme4 + GPT/UEFI + Windows 10.

So for those who want to help, please read this post first. I get tired of people on reddit who want to pad their post count, read 2 words then repeat what I already said I did or ask questions that are already answered.

Per title, motherboard is an Asrock Z87 Extreme4.



Used RUFUS to do a usb boot drive. It's set to GPT. Make the boot.

I see NOTHING in the bios or the manual about switching from legacy OS to UEFI.

Chose F11 for bootmanager, choose installation from my USB drive (UEFI).

Windows 10 installs fine and then I get this error screen.

Now this looks like it's telling me the system is still set in legacy mode? I got the manual for it (pdf) and searched every keyword I could to find something about legacy boot and nothing was coming up.

I've disabled CSM or whatever it was called and that just disabled all the ACHI devices.

Convert Windows 10 MBR to GPT (UEFI)?

In reviewing my Windows 10 Pro (64-bit) system I noted that the Secure Boot Status is showing as "unsupported". Investigating further, it appears either the GPT partition for booting using UEFI (is Secure Boot) has become corrupt or my installation was
never installed for Secure Boot. My Windows 10 install is an auto-upgrade from a Windows 8.1 install.

Is there a way to convert the MBR to GPT without doing a fresh install? I do have a USB recovery drive built at a point I believe I had indications Windows was booting from a GPT (UEFI) partition. In fact, the USB recovery drive shows as being a UEFI drive.

Any suggestions will be appreciated!

Help with i7-3820/ASRock Extreme4-M x79 Spec out

SPecing out a new build for a friend that wants an option now incase he doesn't want to wait for IB>

Chip = i7-3820
Board = ASRock x79 Extreme4-m (or possibly Extreme6 if i can sell him on 3way PCI-E 3.0 sli *Rockout :rockout: )http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.us.asp?Model=X79 Extreme4-M

Question How can you tell an (M1) vs an (M0) version i7-8320 ? this is important because the chip came out after the chipset on the board I he wants and I have to know what chip version so I can know what bios version will support that chip on the board. Some early boards shipped without a bios version that supports the i7-8320 and will not post.


SEtup feels like kind of a waste now because I just learned that the i7-8320 won't support PCI-E 3.0 *Frown .. any suggestions for PCI-E 3.0 build with processor and board ? Any info on when a PCI-E 3.0 LGA 2011 will release ?
