    I'm done with Win10

I would prefer to install from a DVD, delete the D:\ partition and merge it with C:\,-format the drive and then install,-in fact I'm downloading a ISO file right now.
The problem is I would, according to the Microsoft site, need a valid key, which I don't have. The computer never came with a key.

I would try disabling the graphic card driver and see if it fixes your problem. If not you can try doing a clean install. Caution if you do a clean install the shop may not work on your computer under the warranty. If you want to try use the MCT to download the correct ISO for your version of Windows. For example Home or Pro. Mount the ISO in File Explorer. Then copy the files from the mounted ISO to a flash drive. Restart the computer and enter the bios (usually one of the F keys). Set the flash drive to be the boot drive. Exit bios saving the change. When you get to the screen asking where to install Windows delete all partitions so you only have one partition. Hit next and let the installer set everything up for you.

It is under warranty, so maybe I'll let the shop do the job.
I hope they don't refuse to do a clean install.

Would you mind identifying the store you bought the HP from? I want to be sure never to buy from them!

I have an HP 500-056 Desktop and an HP Pavilion 17" Laptop, both rather long in the tooth by now, and if I remember correctly, both came with Windows Vista. I immediately upgraded to Windows 7. From there I upgraded (?) to Windows 8.0/8.1. In October 2014, I joined the Windows 10 Insider Program. I just updated the HP Pavilion Laptop to Windows 10 16299.371. I dual boot the Desktop; Insider Program and Build 16299; waiting for final.

Not once have I asked Microsoft if I could upgrade or change the Operating System on any machine I've owned. And yeah, I have always done a clean installation, rather than use the "full of trash/junk ware" recovery partition on any machine I've ever owned. I will always do this because I don't like what the OEMs (not Microsoft) include.

  6. Oh, a toxic thread with people saying "I'll never use Windows again!" and "I'll never buy from this and this store again".

Yes, there are faulty products, sometimes. Yes, HP may have sold a bunch of laptops with a glitchy graphics driver (sounds most like it) yes there may have been a simple fix - a clean install. I myself own a flawed, awful Win10 HP Pavilion that I am not happy with.

Yes, in my opinion, Windows 10 is a major downgrade, malware, and a pain in the backside. Yes you can have your own opinion, too.

OP - hope you can sort your troubles out and make up and stay with Windows, it's still possible to make it usable.

Well it's become toxic because my wife's university exam depended on that computer.
Her university is a two to three days drive (car) away from here so the students do their final exam online from home.
This HP is acting up so bad and turning itself off so much that she wouldn't be able to pass.
    So,-I'm getting super frustrated.

And yes,-I'd like to stay with Windows. Too much usable software that is written for windows to abandon it.

My wife still has Windows 7 on her HP, and I did the up grade from 8.1 to 10, on this machine. . . . *Smile

But, I still laugh when I watch this classic. . .
Remember though, it's all in fun. . . I'm not laughing at, or about, you. . *Wink

Lol, I ask my wife the other day, basically the same question you have.

Of course, it was just a rhetorical question. . . .

You don't need a key. The PC has a digital license linked to the unique hardware ID of the PC and stored on Microsoft's activation servers. You just do a clean install of the same edition it had before (Home or Pro) and if asked for a key click the 'I don't have one' link. It then activates automatically from the digital license as soon as it can contact the activation servers.

  12. Since the computer is under warranty, let the shop fix it or replace it.
--- That computer is a disaster: hold their feet to the fire.
--- Be careful about being charged for something without your knowledge ahead of time.
--- If your experience with them is a never ending circle of frustration, get your money back and go to a reliable place to do business with.
--- If doing a clean install is a warranty issue and they want to charge you for it, remember you can do it yourself for free and there's plenty of expert help in this forum
--- It's difficult sorting some of the facts in the middle of “whatever” so I have to ask: is Windows 10 the original OS?

If the computer is fixed or replaced, and issues come up, post here first with the facts so a course of action can be followed up.

Yes,- I will absolutely let the shop fix it.
The shop probably isn't any better or worse than the rest of them. Bought the computer in january, and haven't been to the shop until yesterday. I'll send it in next week or so.
    Yes,-Win10 is the original OS.
If the problems return after fixing I'll post it here.
I'm also writing down a symptom history list for the tech guy to read and I will also give suggestions on what may be the fault.
Several members here suggests checking drivers. If drivers are not the issue I'll ask the shop if they can do a clean install, and NOT merely a recovery. Already did a recovery (both alternatives) and the problems returned.
I just have to tell them that in case of checking drivers don't fix it, it is in THEIR best interest to do a clean install, since I will be back until the problems are gone. I have a two year warranty, so in case they wish to sneak away with a recovery, this will mean less work for them in the short run but lots of work in the long run.

Recovery will most probably bring you back to HP Recovery partition and all the problems with it. Best to do clean install if problems were not related to hardware.

HP Support Assistant found two errors:
    1) Windows Update has been repaired.
    2) Detected potential error in Windows Update database.

Perhaps not relevant, but non the less.
