Win 10 Image Restore from Network Location

SMB2 (server message blocks v2) is the newer version of the Windows filesharing protocol
    SMB (server message blocks).

When you are creating a SIB (system image backup) from inside Windows, you can use the older SMB.

When you restore a SIB over the network it has to be on a SMB2 share.

All this means that if you are using NAS (network attached storage) or a computer that doesn't support SMB2, you can create a SIB on it but not restore from it. This leads to confusion/frustration.

as those détails are pasted here for you!

You will require some sort of a 3rd party backup solution such as any of the following listed below as Microsoft has depreciated this feature from w/in the
Windows 10 Fall Creators Update build & onwards!

I personally use AOMEI Backupper Professional AOMEI Backupper Standard 4.0.6 (FreeBie) or upgrade to Pro
which wofrks very well under multiple beta tests w/ both Windows 10 Enterprise (x64) / Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB 2016

  4. Image Restore from Network Location??

Hi vaivoogre. Welcome to the TenForums @vaivoogre

I don't really think I understand so I thought I would get some clarifications.

You mentioned you want to repair your windows but later you mention Image Restore which is a restoration process that restores (copies) from an Image created in Windows Backups. Indeed it could repair your issue but this is a restoration (copy) process.

You also mention you have an external drive with Window 10 image. Are these Images you create with Backup and Restore or are these iso files of Windows 10.

If an external drive is connected to a PC as far as I know that is not a Networked drive. Is this drive connected locall through USB?

Can I ask what are you booting from?

What is happening on your Windows 10 that you are trying to repair?

Not trying to be difficult. Thanks

I have automatic windows repair loop when I turn on my PC! And then says "Startup Repair couldn't repair your PC" Log file: H:\Windows\System32\Logfiles\Srt\SrtTrail.txt. I have windows downladed from windows official site and I guess it's a iso then right?

  6. Okay so you didn't created "Backup" images that you would use with image restore, correct me if I'm wrong.

These files on your external drive should have a file extension and are likely iso's. Please connect external drive to a working PC and check.

I would also create a Kyhi's recovery disk, boot from it on your damage device and copy your personal files off machine.

In my opinion your first goal should be to get your data off device.

    @vaivoogre,

I think you are misunderstanding what an ISO file is. Yes, it is an image file, but in order to use it, the files contained inside that image (ISO) file must be extracted from it. You first step, as @Caledon Ken eluded to, is going to be to create a USB flash drive (also called thumb drive or memory stick) that contains the files extracted from the ISO file - and you are going to need an operating computer with Windows to do that. If you have the ISO file saved on a drive that you can connect to a computer and see the ISO file, here is how to do it. I recommend using a USB flash drive between 8 and 32 GB in size. The USB flash drive will be erased at the beginning of the process.

Insert the USB flash drive into a computer running Windows. Run Command Prompt as Administrator. In the Command Prompt window run the following commands:

    diskpart
    list disk
select disk # <- replace # with the actual number assigned to the USB flash drive. Look at the capacities of the drives above.
clean <- this will erase the drive selected above. Make sure it is the USB flash drive!
    create part pri
    format fs=fat32 quick
    active
    assign
    exit
    exit

Now you need to mount the ISO file. In Windows 10 and Windows 8 you can just right click on the file and select mount. In Windows 7 you have to use a program like WinCDEmu:
WinCDEmu - the easiest way to mount an ISO. And more...

Once you have the ISO file mounted, it will look like a DVD drive letter. Copy all the files and folders from the new "DVD" drive letter that appeared to the USB flash drive.

Read my first quote in the middle of Kyhi's Recovery Tools first post:
