Impossible to boot my Windows - ESP partition problem

Hi,So my computer has 3 different OS installed on different partitions :- Windows 11 default OS that came installed in my pc that I use for hobbies- Windows 10 ATLAS optimized tweaked OS that I use for independent dev/gaming- Ubuntu used for my work at uniThe problem is :Yesterday I was manipulating partitions with EaseUS on Win11, and I accidentally tried to erase ESP boot partition. That lead to the bluescreen error CRITICAL PROCESS DIED and incapacity to boot under my Win11. I still had access to Ubuntu and Win10 though. I followed some tutorials on the net to fix the partition by try

  2. Is it posible to stop an ESP partition in my C: drive to show as a local disk?

    Hello USER49

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community.

It sounds like the ESP (EFI System Partition) is being mounted and assigned a drive letter, causing it to show up as a local disk in Windows. This is not typical behavior, as the ESP is meant to be a hidden partition used by the system's UEFI firmware to store boot files.

To stop the ESP partition from showing as a local disk, you can remove its drive letter assignment using the Disk Management tool or the diskpart command line utility. Here's how you can do it using both methods:

    Using Disk Management:

    1. Press Win + X and select Disk Management.
    2. Locate the ESP partition. It's usually a small partition (around 100-500 MB) formatted as FAT32.
    3. Right-click on the ESP partition and select Change Drive Letter and Paths.
    4. If a drive letter is assigned, click Remove and confirm the action.
    5. The ESP partition should no longer appear as a local disk in Windows.
    Using diskpart:

    1. Press Win + X and select Windows Terminal (Admin) or Command Prompt (Admin).
    2. Type diskpart and press Enter to launch the disk partitioning utility.
    3. Type list volume and press Enter to display all volumes.
    4. Identify the volume number for the ESP partition by its size and FAT32 file system.
    5. Type select volume X (replace X with the actual volume number of the ESP partition) and press Enter.
    6. Type remove letter=Y (replace Y with the actual drive letter assigned to the ESP partition) and press Enter.
    7. Type exit to close diskpart.
After performing these steps, the ESP partition should no longer show up as a local disk in Windows. This should not affect the functionality of your system, as the ESP partition is still accessible to the system firmware and boot manager.

Regarding the issues with Windows 7 Backups on Windows 11, it's worth noting that the backup and restore functionality from Windows 7 has been deprecated in Windows 10 and later. Microsoft recommends using other backup solutions, including the built-in File History for personal files or third-party backup software for full system backups.

If there is anything not clear or I can't understand your problem, please do not hesitate to let me know.

    Best Regards

Is it posible to stop an ESP partition in my C: drive to show as a local disk?

    Help, please.

Currently using a home-built desktop PC; I cloned the old HDD system of the previous PC to an SS drive in the new PC and upgraded to Windows 11. After that I had not been able to make Windows 7 Backups.

I have followed a lot of suggestions from these forums, but no solution found.

It seems to be related to the junction point or reparse point (reparse point points to a volume employing FAT file system.) They suggested to check its properties and it is supposed to show "Type is listed as Mounted Volume", but in my case it says "File folder". They suggested to delete the folder, which I did, but when I later checked it was there again.

Checking the partitions in my system drive. I noticed there is a "Primary-FAT32 (LBA) ESP" partition which shows as a local disk

So, my question is: is it posible to stop that ESP partition in my C: drive to show as a local disk?

  4. Impossible to boot my Windows - ESP partition problem

Lost EFI/ESP Partition | No Room Preceding OS Part | Options?

    • Lost EFI/ESP Partition.
    • After deleting MSR, on 17Mb is available (tutorial on woshub to re-add ESP + MSR, then copy *.efi files from %windir%)
    • Diskpart shrink QUERYMAX tells me that I have 4gb, but wont let me free up (tried 228 [100efi + 128msr as well trying 116 after finding out win10 msr only 16mb).

    1. Can I migrate / defreg files to back of disk, opening up more room b4 os part?
    2. what about single partition windows installs, where x looks in windir for boot information? where x is ? EFI? BCD? i'm not sure, i got the impression that if no ESP part, windows looks in the %windir%

    thanks =)
