Windows 10: In general, which one is the better source for updating device driver?

Hello,

When updating driver on laptop, which option is generally better?

1. Updating from Windows Update
2. From the laptop OEM (Asus, Dell, HP, etc)
3. From the device manufacturer (Nvidia, AMD, Realtek, etc)

I read on Intel or Nvidia website, they actually recommend to use driver from your laptop OEM.
Is it a good advice?

The Microsoft one is the standard camera app that comes with all Windows Phone devices frm all manufacturers, the Nokia one is unique to Nokia products and is one of the best camera apps in the industry, and includes many extra "lenses" which provide extra
features.

 

I would use the laptop manufacturer OEM drivers, if they have them available for Windows 10. Then let Windows Update do the updates from those.

As a general rule, if there's no problem, leave well alone.

Only if there's a problem:
2. - might be worth checking esp. for older versions if there's a problem with what MS delivers- which may the case if you install an OS for which there's no manufacturer approval or support.
3. - there may be a valid Nvidia update even if Windows update says your device is up to date.

Case 1:
I found one finger and chiral (circular scrolling) no longer worked on my touchpad. This is not uncommon. The latest driver doesn't help. I found an older version- with difficulty- actually for a DELL Alienware laptop- and now have full funtionality (v16 vs v19 if I recall).

Case 2:
The Realtek driver supplied by Win update had no sound enhancements or equaliser.
I downloaded a driver directly from Realtek, and these features became available.
