Windows 10: In-place upgrade of windows 10 failed - error message 0x8007042B & 0x4000D, "The...

I tried to do an in-place reinstall of win 10 to save my apps and files which I have done many times successfully. Used Media Creation Tool, copied to thumb drive, went through install process which took about 4 hours. and got this message: "The installation failed in the 2nd boot phase with an error during MIGRATE_DATA option." I tried a second time after doing some maintenance on the PC and turning off the anti-virus and got the same result. I have researched this extensively and while I can find that this has been discussed a great deal over the last couple of years, I can't find a definitive answer that tells me how to fix the problem. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

just started to research this...

0x8007042B - 0x4000D failed in the second boot phase with an error in the migrate_data option

the worst part is, the restore messed up my computer ... have an error with windows\system32\rasadhlp.dll file and the online help doesn't repair it.

should i try to get the update to work and hope that fixes the dll problem?

i'm gonna do a clean boot and reinstall it and see if that works.

... and it worked. I forgot the clean boot upgrade/update trick til I saw it... I had to do it to upgrade from 7 to 10.

As with many users, I'm encountering the same issue when trying to upgrade my PC to 1909 from 1803. I used the Windows 10 Media Creation tool to create an ISO and mount it virtually, then executing the update. I've disabled all external antiviruses, and
even use the Malwarebytes Removal tool to scrub Malwarebytes from my system. I've ran sfc /scannow and DSIM online image repair in safe mode. The update still continues to fail. Any help would be much appreciated.

I got the same error when I try to update insider version 14931 to 14946. I doesn't want to make clean install, because I have really lot of applications in my PC!
