Windows 10: In Task Manager, Disk full doesn't match display

I have stopped utorrent and the problem is still here.

 

Did you try any of the process of elimination steps that @Brink recommended in post # 7?

 

The task manager doesn't show what is using all the memory. Check disk said no errors.

 

The thought is that if it doesn't show everything running I won't be able to shtu down the processes.

This is what I think because it will say sometimes a program is using 8mb of memory but it will be at like 30%. Then other times it will say 98% is being used but the hugest file being run is at like 0.4mb. So clearly there is something using memory not there.

 

You haven't definitively made the determination however, until you've tried killing each and every process listed on the Task Manager Processes tab. Obviously, this is a tedious undertaking perhaps requiring taking a few notes and definitely involving multiple restarts.

I wouldn't put too much emphasis on the % columns in Task Manager but rather focus on killing a process (while disk usage is so high) to see if there is an obvious drop in disk usage once that process is killed. Remember there could be a small file being hammered continually and it would still mean high disk usage.

My discussion of the numbers not matching appears here. You can see disk shows 100% BUT if you add everything up you get .29MB and seriously I have more memory than that although it says 100%.

 

There is a basic misunderstanding of what these figures mean. If you add up all the disk usage figures you get 2.9 MB/s - that's Megabytes per second. It's showing the rate at which data is being read or written to the disk, not the total size of the files on the disk. The 100% means that the disk is working at the maximum transfer rate it is capable of, not that you have used up all the disk space.

It's like saying a car has enough fuel to travel 500 miles (my disk has 500GB storage) but it says it's working at 100% at only 70mph (its working at 100% at 2.9MB/s). You don't look at a speedometer and expect it to show how far you can travel, you expect it to show the speed you are traveling at. The figures you have added up are the speeds, not the size.
