Windows 10: Increase the time for Windows Hello Facial Recognition on Domain PC

I setup windows hellow on a new domain connected laptop but whenever the laptop is turned on for the first time after a shut down the facial rec starts, lasts 5 seconds then asks for a pin. This is way too short for the user that is using it and should be configurable to change the duration to a much longer period. Is this possible?


Also after it asks for a pin anytime we bring the system out of sleep or the screen being shutoff from the timeout it asks for pin without trying facial rec. Is there a way to fix that as well?


Ultimately the user wants facial rec to work at all times if the machine is logged out. we have it set to sleep on lid close so battery killing isn't an issue when we put the laptop in a bag.

Windows facial recognition on a domain

Windows 10 Pro joined to a Windows Server Essentials 2016 domain

There is one local administrative account and one domain account

I only have the local account in case of emergency, and this scenario is for the domain account.



After a shutdown and restart:

1. Appears to default to last signed in user and type (password or PIN). I can log in using either the password or the PIN, but if I select facial recognition I get the message:

“Windows Couldn’t sign you in.”

“Your password was changed on a different device. You must sign in to this device once with your new password and then you can sign in with Windows Hello.”

The only option is an OK button, select either the PIN or password option to sign in.



2. Once signed in, go to Settings/Accounts/Sign-in Options and remove and then setup facial recognition.

3. Sign-out. It will allow you to sign-in using facial recognition. You can sign-out and back in over and over, no problems.

4. Restart or Shutdown and restart and you are back to step 1 – no facial recognition.

We need to do further investigation on your concern so that we will know why the facial recognition quit working:

• Have you recently made any changes/updates prior to this issue?
• Is there an error message when you try to sign using facial recognition?
• What is the make and model of your computer?

In the meantime, I would suggest that you perform the troubleshooting steps in this
