    Increase thumbnail size in Windows 10 Explorer


    Hi guys,

    Mac user here, currently running Windows 10 Pro via Boot Camp on my Mac Pro and a 5K display - LG 27MD5KLB-B 27" Ultrafine @ 5120 x 2880 resolution.

    I am having hard time finding a way to increase the thumbnail size in Explorer beyond the extra large dimensions, which are uselessly small on a 5K display, even on the 200 DPI scaling setting. In macOS, there is a slider that lets you increase the size easily to 512x512px (I think), but I can't find a similar option in Windows 10. Am I missing something, because it's 2021 and the era of High-DPI displays - no way Microsoft overlooked that. Maybe I need an Explorer replacement?

    Windows Explorer crashes and thumbnails problem

    Hi, I hope you can help me.
    Windows Explorer is no longer showing thumbnails on files played by Windows Media Player. I've run cmd and regsvr32 shmedia.dll and regsvr32 shimgvw.dll. That seemed to solve the problem...but it created a different one. Now when I try to open a folder on an external hard drive it crashes. I read in an old 2008 post it was an avi file causing the problem and suggested the run cmd regsvr32 /u shmedia.dll. That solved the opening problem but recreated the thumbnail problem. Any help to achieve both functions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

    Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK

    Increase thumbnail size in Windows 10 Explorer

    In Windows 10, how can I enlarge thumbnail size?

    Even after selecting Extra large icons, the thumbnails are too small for me to discern the images. I completed the steps for:

    1. Option 1: 'To Turn On Thumbnail Previews in File Explorer'.
    2. Changing Image Thumbnail Size per this Registry Hack Method.

    But my thumbnails have not enlarged.
